In regards to lumping, that is really based on how your carrier works. Though, most always hire lumpers. I can think of only once where I had to do any lumping and that was just two pallets at some really small place that I delivered too. And even then I didn't have to do it. I only did it because the old geezer on the dock looked like one more box would kill him.
As for hometime that seriously depends on who you drive for and how they route and do their load schedules. Though I'm not home every weekend I probably could be, but I'd sacrifice my income to do it. I generally prefer to take Tuesday/Wednesday off and drive over the weekends as I generally get better loads and miles. -
I kinda phrased my question wrong. If I want to be home at least 2 days a week is that possible with refrigeration companies? Are u home every tuesday and wednesday? I would imagine that reeferring or driving food grade tankers would be the best route to go in a recession. -
Not in these times! Every trucking company out there has a stack of apps to choose from. You being new and willing to turn the key for half of what I was making will get you the job but home every weekend? Go to Burger king or Mickey D's! Cause you'll make better money there and be home every night! Most of these companies will be glad to pay you to lump the trailer but you'll get some embarrassing hourly pay or $25 maybe even $50 but they will not pay you that $150-$300 the lumpers get and they pretty much know who the lumper service is and what they charge so doing it your self and handing in a fake receipt will geet you fired! If you need to be home that much just find a local job!

It is "possible" to find a company where you are home every weekend. I'm home nearly every weekend, and a lot of times 2-3 times a week. But, I work for a small company and we run what is basically regional.
Although, I was out last weekend and it was part of a 5 day stretch. Looks great on the ol' paycheck.
