What kind of work are you wanting to do?

    Oilfield? OTR?

Long term? At least home on weekends sounds nice. Short term (a year or two) otr is completely fine by me and who knows if I love it I might stay just seems hard on a relationship. I’m not overly picky on this part the location and company being fair are what I’m most worried about. Essentially case is this I live in NH, my fiancé lives in Manitoba around Steinbach. Looking to move out there bank roll for a year (which is where otr seems best option living in the truck and when borders open park at the terminal take my personal vehicle up to see her and repeat). We’ve already agreed on after we get married working on getting her over here. At that point I’d look into getting a house in the area keeping me close to work and her close to family as well. At that point I’d think a home weekly gig or home nightly/every other night would be preferable. I’ll be getting my hazmat/doubles triples/tanker endorsements before I leave school. Eventually tanker or flatbed sounds fun but who knows as I haven’t actually carried any freight yet. Being treated fairly and the location as of this time is what I’m looking at most.

Seems like that one company that has runs through your girlfriends town would be perfect.

Also to everyone I do have long hair and won’t have a company make me cut it if that matters for any recommendations. No problem putting it up, no problem putting it up and tucking it under a beanie. Try to force me to cut it? Hard pass.

Most companies don't care about that. Some tanker companies have safety rules about hair and beards due to not getting a proper seal on a respirator.

Yes or Magnum even though they don’t run Canada the way they do home time once the borders open would be very suitable. Run hard for 3-4 weeks take 7 days with her. I have reached out to S&S, Magnum, and Britton. Think those so far are my top three choices from what I’ve seen. Actively looking into all that have been recommended as they come up as well. Looking at how they stack up with detention, layover, and all that good stuff.

Yeah I know just figured I’d throw it out there on the off chance. Heard TMC and someone say oil refineries having rules so just in case. I’d hate to get to orientation just to be kicked out over what should be a non issue.

Coming back to see if you have any ideas. I talked to Tony today. He was absolutely up to working with me. One catch though, he said I’d need a physical address for the application to cover them legally. Since they say they don’t hire from New England doesn’t want someone to be able to try to sue for saying they don’t then hiring me with a NH address. Any suggestions? I don’t know anyone that lives in ND or MN. He suggested if I knew someone around to ask to stay a few days with permission to use their address for that. He said a PO Box wouldn’t satisfy the application form, needs to be physical. Maybe I bite it and get a studio apartment?

In your shoes then what I would do is to get setup with Dakota post and get your residency set up after you get your CDL. It literally takes less than 24 hours to do it. That would give you a physical address of 2905 Potsdam ave Sioux Falls SD. Yes you have to go there to switch your license, but you can do that on your drive out. It'll take them maybe a week to process your app after that and get you into orientation, but you could hang out in a motel for that long. Motel 6 rates are 50 to 60 bucks a night in that area in the summer and less in the winter. Who knows, by that time maybe you'll be able to cross into Canada and can go spend a week with your honey while the app is being approved.

And don't worry about it being approved. It will be as long as your record is clean, and you have a valid CDL and med card. You are overthinking this I think. Trucking jobs are easy to get as long as you have a clean CDL and meet the requirements for the job. It is rare that you are competing against others for the same spot because of the high turn over rate.
