If you don't have the time to do it your self for anyone else that wants to move a truck, You can contact a Drive Away company do do it for ya. They charge ya, but they pay for the permits and all. I use to pick up repossessed trucks that way. Glad I don't any more though.... LOL

When you buy a truck from a dealer you are given a 30 day temp tag to move the truck, get to the commercial vehicle office etc. but you CAN NOT hitch a load to it. And since you cannot be pulling a load, you are not under dispatch and the bobtail just became a very expensive personal vehicle so as long as you have at least basic liability Ins. So drive on!

I've never really noticed that before(never looked for a new/used rig either tho:biggrin_2559:). How much can you save(on average) by buying in cali?

i know this thread is pretty old and dead, but some posters were saying that as long as you dont hitch you'll be ok with a temp tag, but what if you bought a trailer the same time you bought the truck, could you hitch then since both are new to you?

You can always get an "in transit permit" from DMV, if nothing else. Costs vary from state to state. Scales cannot argue the validity of paperwork issued from DMV.

    FriedTater and mitchtazz Thank this.
