I know this might be a long shot but...
Is there any Cummins mechanics here that could get the software required for setting HP and speed on ISX engines? My old man is getting tired of paying the money every month to have his engine changed just to go into Ontario the odd time, and frankly I would like to have the software too.
Where can one purchase the required cable as well, or are these items not so easy to come by?

Anyone know what software I need, title, version??

To bad they don't a something like the Superchips Flashpaq I use on my truck. It can limit and govern my F250 and I can remove the limitation just as easy.

In order to change speed limits you need software to change parameters. As far as I know the only program for that is from Cummins. The program is called Insite. I think it is only available to dealers though. I did check out the website and there is no listing for Insite directly, they just say to contact your local distributor. If you are serious about buying Insite you should contact an actual Cummins shop, not a dealership that is authorized to do Cummins warranty. Insite is a Windows XP, or Vista based program. You would install it onto a laptop, you will have an interface box that will plug into the diagostic plug in the truck and also into the laptop. The interface box will likely be "Inline 5". Insite is a very powerful program. Changing road speed is only the tip of the iceburg. But I think it is the only true Cummins program that change parameters. There are other cheaper readers that only read, and cannot write to the ECM. I am not sure of the price, but don't be surprized if Insite is around $2000. The Inline 5 box is about $700. With a good laptop I think you would be looking at somewhere between $3-4000. We have had many customers like you in the same boat that travel across North America and are forced to be programmed at 65 because of Ontario, when many other parts of the nation are allowed to go faster. We have had some drivers that are just about ready to spend the money and get their own computer. I actually haven't heard much about it lately. I will certainly ask next time I go in!

What heavyD has said is correct to my knowledge. Insight is not a cheap program, you have to renew it every year if I remember right.
-
You have to renew it yearly but it cheaper than you think. Problem is, some distributors may refuse to sell it to everyone

I asked my supervisor yesterday. As far as we know Cummins will only sell Insite to dealers. We know of no other software that will change road speed on an ISX.

Well, Cummins West (NorCal) has sold it to me. And Im just truck owner. Although I needed to establish account with them, so they probably run some credit check or something. What they are trying to do probably is they like to control who gets the software, keep in mind there are also ways find out who (what computer exactly was used, they trace users computers by giving them PCID numbers) was doing latest changes to the ECM.
Then there is that free software called Powerspec which you can download from their website, but you need to get licence from Cummins (its just password) to be able to upload changes to the ECM. Without licence you can only read from ECM. Its way smaller software than INSITE, but still very interesting. It can be used to set speed limits, tire size, manage Road Relay and many other parameters. Question is, if your local distributor will like you enough to give it to you, probably they will want you to go for some classes first ($400 for 2 days is latest offer I got)Last edited: Nov 6, 2009
rank Thanks this. -
Check into the Bully Dog Big Rig downloader. You can 2 tunes and can get a few more if you call and talk to them. I know on my ACERT I can adjust the speed limitor and you may be able to on the Cummins downloader also.
