Just wanted to say hello from Tn. I'm new to this industry, I know 2 folks that are drivers, they say it's tough and not for everybody but they love it. I've been lurking for a couple of months here and watching other sites as well, this seems to be a very good one. I attended VTC driving school in Murfreesboro Tn. 2 of the 3 weeks and got my CDL permit, medical card, 3yr. MVR, and took my DOT drug test. I had to leave cause they said the financing fell through and they wanted to large of a dn. pymt. to finance in house, that being said they are a good school and I would recommend them if you have 5400.00 dollars, small classes, good instructors, and enough trucks that you're not standing around waiting. I was talking with Prime before I left and they were going to hire me , and now say I can finish my training with them, I'll be there on 11/10/09 and I know to stay away from the lease purchase plan, and focus on company driver thanks to ya'll. Prime is alway's running by my house on I-24 & I-75 here in Tn. so I figure home time might be easier to get, once I'm on my own. I've been a home contractor all my life and have 2 DUI's and & 2 felonies (alcohol related) that are 25 years old that have come back to haunt me in this line of work 14 companies turned me down and Prime took 3 weeks to say yes, my record since 1984 is clean on all fronts and thats what made the diffrence with Prime. So anyway i'm glad to have joined this site and have a laptop to stay intouch.

With the DUI's on your record, you're in for a rough ride. However, the atitude you're displaying here is excellent. Once you get past the "paperwork" and get them to look at the driver vs the past, you'll do well. I wish you the best of luck and please ask questions here. These guys and gals can give some great advise and have some outstanding tips!

Since you have a laptop, may I recommend getting one of the computer logbook programs? I don't carry a printer so I still do them by hand, but I use the computer to keep me from screwing up. DDL is a good one, and there are others as well.

    Anyway, welcome to the road!:biggrin_255:

With them 2 DUI's and & 2 felonies it's going to be very very hard for you. I would be asking companies if you they would take you first, then proceed to getting your cdl. Good luck, keep up with the good attitude

I believe with the amount of time lapse inbetween you have a chance. Its very competitive so it might come down to your driving/class skills....
