Why Do moving companies have so many custom super sleepers?

I always assume its for their old lady.

 

The money would be better spent on their girlfriend instead of the old lady.

 

There are a lot of big house trucks at Landstar, number one reason for me is comfort .
I’m 79’ long, king pin 16” deep, tandem fixed to rear on 53’ trailer. Turns like a aircraft carrier, great fun in truck stops, but I would not go back to a standard truck. So I piss a few drivers off at truck stops, at least I don’t park in the way.

Sometimes I wish I could make a u turn in the middle of a aisle at a truck stop, but I have made it to all my pick ups and deliveries, some require being creative.

There's a big classic car rally every fall that starts outside Vail, the rest area in Edwards get's taken over by Reliable and other car haulers for a week, all with huge sleepers. Rolled in one afternoon to use the facilities, the 5 trucks that were parked there had broken out a huge BBQ, had a tables, chairs, an awning, they had a regular party going on, only thing missing was the TV, then I noticed there was one mounted on the side of the one trailer.

Couple years back, I did a live load on a container for export, household goods. I pulled up with a 40' can, there was an AVL O/O with a huge sleeper pulled along with a crew of 10 movers in two vans. It was a divorce situation, the divorce was final, she was moving back home to Germany, he was moving to Florida. Sat there for 8 hrs of loading, part of that time was the couple fighting over a few items, which resulted in lawyers being called.

 

I was thinking of this one for my kitty.
