Good advice and good people here Hwaiian Arab, just don't let others fool you into thinking you are going to be making any serious money during the training phase, it is very tough financialy and on you also, you are starting in an industry that not a whole lot of people are cut out for, it takes a special kind of person to stay out and run but the rewards are more than worth it, it took me a year or so to start getting the business sorted out and stop making it hard on myself, I do hope you get on with a company that will put you out with person who wants you to succeed and not just interested in the extra money to be made off of you, stay far away from companies who put two new driver fresh out of school into a truck and turn them loose on the road and call that training, make sure you have an experienced driver to TEACH you, and DO NOT get conned into a lease purchase program.
Best to you MLT003kickin chicken Thanks this. -

Depends....we all know you dont know what you want, but what do you want?

Long haul...short haul....home every night...out 2wks, home 2days(take index finger and go REAL fast vertically across lips).
Right outta school, I didnt know NOTHING but I wanted money...heehee, new idea huh? Got hired on driving Dump...and LARGE dump for trucking company
Dump: Haul dirt, asphalt, concrete, and tailgate driveways and mall parking lots.
Large dump: Haul HuuuuGE amounts of manure(dont laugh, BIG bucks in % revenue for me), grain, beans, sand, etc etc. Broke my record for overall GROSS in a big truck....84,000 then 92000(7times)...100,390....then the biggie...113,454....UGGGH, that poor Kenworth T600/700 took 30mins to get up to 55
Drive fast, use county roads, gogogo. Anyways, thats what my first experience was outta the box(school), and ya know, I thank GOD for it cause the experience I gained and learned benefited me hugely........then i realized what i wanted and found peace in OTR.
I wanted good mileage(2500-3200) a week, good benefits, an engine that wouldnt take me an hour to get up to 55(thank GOD my big trucks Ive driven in past could only go up to an avg weight load of 41,000-46,400), lol,113,000lbs was (ahem) "a load". Soooooooo, you really should know what you want "basically" instead of "professionally"(that part will come as you move along and learn and HOPEFULLY, you wont have to quit to JUST get what you want professionally.kickin chicken Thanks this. -
I would never kick a chicken. Rhode Island Reds look good tho........I gota get out more.
kickin chicken Thanks this.
