Given the choices here,
If your looking at a van hauler. I would strongly consider the truck Dave_in_AZ has for sale. That is a good price for that truck.
Next would be
07 international
07 Columbia
11 Mack
All of the trucks that are listed, are coming up on some major maintenance work. Expect to put 15 to 25 thousand into any of them. The ones I listed are the best deals of the list. I am partial to the international, I had an 07 myself. Wish I still had that truck. Dang thing was solid. Worked the oil patches with not one complaint.
Which truck should I buy??

You are a diesel mechanic? You have tools but Do you also have all the computer software and the ability to operate that software to talk with all of the different systems on the trucks? I’m not sure what it’s like in your part of the country, but in California they are increasing the restrictions in emissions for these trucks and I wouldn’t be surprised if that trend starts to spread across the country. Here they are demanding DPF systems on all over the road tractor trailers. Which is Also something to keep in mind. Even with your wrenching skills you could have difficulty fixing a post 2007 truck, unless you are familiar with the computer systems needed to diagnose the emissions faults.joseph1853 Thanks this.

Keep looking at the Truck Paper, saw a W S with a bad engine for 5 $.
tommymonza and joseph1853 Thank this. -
I'm sure I could afford a bit newer truck in the 40k range but my wife doesn't want me to spend that much. She's of the mindset get one as cheap as you can and pay it off quickly which I understand but there's the possibility of it costing more in repairs than if I had just spent a bit more upfront but she doesn't understand that.Midwest Trucker Thanks this.

True the computer aspects could definitely prove to be challenging to say the least. I will take that into consideration. I'm in Texas so the emissions restrictions are less than they are in California but like you said with the expanding regulations that could change shortly.
