A couple of years ago, there was a major crash on the eastbound I70 heading down that long steep mountain into Golden..... the guy's brakes failed, English was not his first language, and the company had a history of the same problem on a number of their trucks. There were a few deaths, and certainly many more injuries. I recall that there were a number of criminal charges against the driver, but I hadn't heard of any action against the company for their lack of maintenance management, or if there were any developments past that. What happened with it?

Oh, they socked it to that punk, he was charged with 40 counts, including vehicular homicide and assault. He faces decades in prison. I don't know if the company was charged, as it was determined he was responsible for the brake failure.

I remember thinking that there was enough blame to go around, starting from his driving school and DMV examiner for not catching his language problem (I thought that fluency in English was mandated? ); to the company that hired him and didn't catch it, AND failed to maintain their equipment; and ultimately to the driver(using the term loosely from a technical standpoint). If he can provide documentation that he TOLD someone who could do something about any mechanical problems?????

Since when is it a problem, It is in the DOT book of regs. But is not enforced, never been, never will be.There have been several multi-fatality accidents, the lawsuits have been in the millions. Many have been on dry roads, a simple heads up on the C B would have avoided the accident.

Not sure, turns out, I believe this kid was here on a 6 month visa, he had some training, but made poor choices. The equipment wasn't faulty, and I don't think the company did any wrongdoing. He was observed driving erratically before the hill, bypassed 2 (?) runaway ramps, and basically froze and just "rode it out". The companies have to fill the seats, and can only do so much. Colorado has a strict inspection program, more so after the crash, and watches the trucks pretty close. We, as a country, learned nothing from the crash,,,or so it seems.

speaking and comprehending english nor being a citizen has been a requirement since 2012. The written skills test can be taking in spanish if you request it. They will give the physical driving test with a bilingual testor upon appointment request.

If someone weren’t paying attention to the legislation being passed by the president at that time then this is a huge suprise to someone now.
