I agree with you. I saw so much orange and red across Arkansas and in DFW on down. I wasn't anywhere near Texas but if I was, I wouldn't have worked yesterday. Its one thing when it snows, but it's no way of handling ice.

doesn't look good. if you get into a situation like this you need to recognize you have to bail. take your rig off the road, into an obstacle, anything to avoid crushing those in front of you. your life is forfeit , should be common training. you should be making tracks and seeing roadspray if the road looks wet, it still may be slick even if you can see evidence of your movement. autotrons won't always capture this either until tire rotation is affected, don't let that be your first ah-hah moment. these guys crashing into the center of a pileup are screwed, as will we all be because of this. there are hard truths of being a professional driver, this is one of them

The highway in that section was ice. It ices up in that area every year an ICE storm comes down through Texas. They knew it was coming since last weekend. The road should have been closed hours before this happened.
Listen to the videos and you can hear the “polyester” tearing sound that tires make when skidding on ice. Once you hit that you are done even if you are superman.
These storms happen every year and that is way San Antonio will shut down the overpasses and known bad spots and Txdot and other counties will shut down I-10 heading west. Ice Ice Ice.
We are getting a big Ice and snow event forecasted for Sunday through Tues coming up. Gonna be interesting.God prefers Diesels Thanks this. -
I know it looked like it but the road was not completely flat. It has a crest where the road crosses the Trinity river.
And it is going to be happening all the way up the I 30 corridor to Little Rock and beyond. Several inches of snow expected.Flat Earth Trucker, mjd4277 and DoubleO7 Thank this. -

it's because the "newer generation" takes all those electronic gizmos for granted, like GPS and depend on that more than brain power.
and the trucking companies that just open the doors to the newbies, with out any real time in the seat, with a highly experienced trainer, but rather yet another newbie, that just gradumacated the company CDL training program himself.
in other words, "the blind leading the blind"Muddydog79 Thanks this. -
i cannot recall Texas as far as if they "pre-treat" thier roads, like in other states, where snow/ice happen more often. as an example, when snow is coming up here, my state and pretty much as far as i can recall, all the New England states, get out ahead of the storm, and lay down either salt or that liquid "salt", or a combo of both.
sorry, but i keep forgetting the real name of that "liquid salt"Bud A. and God prefers Diesels Thank this. -
1983 was the worst winter storm in Texas that I can remember. Houston Iced over. Got down to 12-14 degrees down in the valley. They are predicting it could happen again.
God prefers Diesels and Deere hunter Thank this.
