Thanks for the info and the $ details. I'm sure the money will improve as you learn the lanes that fit your needs. Without knowing the % deadhead, would you say the average loaded rate would be 1.60-1.70? Funny how much it changes once you use actual miles then add in the d/h. That is the number that really matters to us.

I've been told there is an agent here near me, just outside of Charlotte, that has a pretty solid customer base and a good quanity & quality of loads. Have you done much work up in this area, or have you seen how much is inbound & outbound near here?

You must be doing a lot of loads out west to have that kind of LOH. So many companes only offer 300-400 mile loads nearly every day; unload and reload then not have hours to even run those short trips legally. That kind of running will wear you out in a van, even worse with flats I'm sure.

So a 48x102 seems to be the best choice and weight doesn't seem that much of an issue. I'm seeing a lot of them on the market right now with sidekits and tarps included, but that's a setup that probably is not used much at Mercer from what I've heard.

In North Carolina we have a agent in Greeneville, Charlotte, & Asheville. Then there is a agent in Columbia as well.

I don't deliver in North or South Carolina much, so I can't really offer much of an opinion on those agents or the freight. I have heard that Charlotte is a good agent & have seen drivers deadhead from the coast to be closer to Charlotte.

No, not nearly enough posts to PM ... I usually don't have anything good to say about trucking anymore so I stay quiet! If you PM me I can reply with my email though.

Also, I was the official photographer for the Parade Of Breeds horse show recently and I don't remember there being blue ponies?? :)

Right now I prefer to run west then turn coming right back east. It's been a good thing up until recently... I'm going to continue attempting it though. Loading in the Morning heading back to Cali.

Finally!!! I'm just so happy that at least one of my weather forecasts became true!

It sounds like you've been able to keep rolling steadily even though we are at a low point in freight volumes. Supposedly rates will go up as capacity decreases once we enter our economic recovery ... when that is going to happen is the big unknown. By then CSA2010 will be kicking in and who knows what effect that will have on the industry and drivers in particular.

Does the company have an internal load board for drivers to look at or is all coordination through their dispatcher?

This weekend it is supposed to clear up and be in the low 70's. I can live with that, I have a "Cowboy Christmas" equine rescue league fundraiser to photograph on Sunday, and rodeo finals that night. It better be nice out!

well you can put down that you would like to be offered the load and you can also committ to the load but you had better be able to haul it if you committ but Mercer has a first in first out policy sooooooooo......you can't just see a load and get it.......unless you are REDD....rotfl....Pony runs hard the other direction.......:biggrin_25521:
