Unless you want to lose everything you have, your house car, whatever you have DO NOT go to work for cr england, go the to bad company thread here and look up cr england and see what has happened to those who didnt listen to others that warned of cre, look for covenant and stevens there to, and ask which would be better covenant or stevens. dont jump from the frying pan into the fire.
-
Hey!! Right there with ya!! Recent gad. Been calling for months. I was willing to jump on any job. But don't stop calling the other companies. With some companies they book months ahead of time. But just like all of us we call everybody hoping to get in . They give a date. Then some one else give us somethang better and we take it. Or they just give up on trucking. What ever reason they don't show. Now there is a spot open for a gad. Right place right time. With the economy the way it is, And you got to start somewhere. But just like peanut butter said frying pan to fire. Just hang out for a while and read some of these post and threads. You will learn alot.and maybe not the hardway. At the top there is a search buttom click type in cr england and read what there. Then make a choice. Mc'ds or somethang else. Hang in there.
southernpride Thanks this. -
You are having the similar problem that I had 24 years ago. Got your CDL (wasn't called that back then) and yet nobody would hire you on. When I started, you had to have 2 yrs experience but no company would hire me to get the experience. Seems like that problem has only changed just a little.
The reason is because you DO NOT have the time required to help keep the insurance low. Companies do not need you to drive their trucks just so you can learn the ropes. Is there hope? There sure is.
Keep calling other companies. You need to look for someone smaller and local to get a few miles under your belt. Expect to be denied several time (if not all the time) but there are, going to be companies that might overlook your lack of experience. Going to work for the major trucking companies will be your downfall. CRE, Warner, Swift, Covenant and all the others that have more truck than they need have one goal in mind. "You are going to make the company more money and we (the company) are going to pay you near nothing until you earn your 2 yrs." It has been that way since the idea to invent a truck. Sorry about the bad news.
The GOOD NEWS is, once you make it, you can get the chance to start to be picky. In the industry that I haul for (convention and trade shows), I have made a good name for myself. Thus being able to drive the fast trucks, getting paid to sit ($150 a day) until the show ends and driving for a percentage of the loads.
I get to pass the trucks that run either 62 or 65 mph, but I get passed by those same trucks when the speed limit is 55 mph. Because I WILL drive 55 and it doesn't bother me. I have learned. You have not.
So, start small and build up a great reputation. It takes time. Took 24 yrs for me to get here.southernpride, big wheels and GoBlue487 Thank this. -
I agree with above posts.
There is a reason CR England is the only one willing to take you on, probably means too many of their drivers are going belly up so they need their next victim to get behind the wheel of a truck that isnt getting enough miles to make their lease payments. -
Well the goodthing is never heard back from Cr england but got a phone call the other day from Werner sounds alot better than cre, so anyways probably going to orentation on wednesday for them.Thinking it's a better choice..

but look before you leap. Good luck and be safe -
I have burn up the phone and the keys on this computer trying to get a job driving. I went to truck driving institute inc. A 154 hour course, Very fast pace. Which I did learn a lot. Was able to handle the pace.Three weeks, But I was tricked in believing that I would be driving in 4 weeks. I competed my cdl mill with a job placement program. NO help what so ever. I started the school with 3 per hire. But at the end of it all. Those companies are not hiring in my area of Florida panhandle. Which the school placement calls me from time to time and ask do you have a job yet. Call me when you do. Can you beleve this. The one thang that did blow me out of the boat, Was the facted, it wasn't as easy as I thought it was drive a truck. Anyway, Got my cdl with a hasmat, want to wait on tanker. Learn to drive a van first. On 8/21/09 every thang looked good to get a job, If I had to do it my self. But with the economy down. So are the jobs. Went for the better companies, smaller, local. Came up empty. I was talking to a local trucking company. That was not so quit to say no and shut the door. She said with economy down. Smaller companies are going under. Letting go of drivers with 2 are more years of exp. So when you have a student and a 2 year trucker asking for the same job. There going with the 2 year guy. My way of thanking might be wrong. But I here of driver after driver quiting for no miles or being laid off for smaller companies. This is very depressing. But I understand what she saying. At one time I was going to work for wil-trans.10/25/09. But I broke my wrist playing football with the kids. Doc. said it was a small break, but a break is a break, 4 weeks in cast.I called wil trans and told them, not a problem They told me. But they sent me a e- mail saying I'm not quafied. I was already quafied, I call and e-mailed to see what had happen. No answer of the phones, no-email answer. With no returned calls. Nothing. So I'm glad that I didn't go that way. So covenant wants me to come there. Well I read all the threads here ( red coat) about covenant, NOT SO GOOD!! But they do have the 35 segments which is about 6 months of training. Then test out for solo are team.( which no bobies crasy about teaming). But what to do? There is just no one hiring. I FEAR. If I wait for the economy to turn around. I believe most trucking companies well make me take a refresher course before hiring. If I end up losing every thang I have learn about shifting. Thats why I paid(5075.000) for school. So I wouldn't have a contract to driver 1 year 2 years for that company to pay back school. Covenant want me to come on over. So I thank I might on 11/30/09. Its has gone over 3 months with out any luck. I got to start some where(yea right) and if red coat can do it so can I (yea right). That least I'm going in knowing it SUCKS. Thanks to red coat wife for letting us all know. But he has move on to new company. I only read a little of that thread. But It looks good for him. Anyway let me get out of here. I'm sorry for being depressing. But like anythang if you want bad enough you find a way.
Don't give up.
