Ephidrene, pure if you could get it would keep me going 36 to 48 hrs, or 800 to 1200 miles, give or take. Fast forward 35 yrs to current times..it's nothing for me to go 48 to 72 hrs no sleep, no help. Between COPD and chronic pain syndrome my brain won't let my body rest, I suspect it's because I know the startup process from sleep is brutal on me, staying awake is easier. I don't recommend driving to anyone under these conditions, even though I do, every day. Sleep deprivation can be mastered but it's a long hellish process.

One truck stop I frequented had half-pint bottles of Ephedrine pills for sale.

On I20 and I10, Google say 1126.5 miles. Nice run.

Finished a 30 hour cement job in Lusk, WY, drove equipment to Brighton, CO, and then threw my stuff in the car going to Brownsville, TX. All total about 1450 miles with only fuel stops.

Back when I was in my early twenties living in Lakeside WI I used to date a rancher's daughter that lived just outside of Laramie WY. It was not uncommon for me to leave out after work on a Friday afternoon at 4 or 5 pm and make it the 1097 miles from my work to her house in plenty of time for breakfast and on occasion some pre-breakfast entertainment. After breakfast, it was usually an hour or two nap then off to her family's ranch to check cows, fix fence or do what ever else needed tending to. The joys of being young and full of sap.

Looking back I probably should have put a ring on that one. Lessons learned I guess.

Legend has it, some guys once ran a load of Coors from Texarkana to Atlanta in less than a day which is no big deal but then immediately turned around and went to Boston, grabbed some clam chowder and headed back to Atlanta in less than 18 hours.
I did notice The one in the Trans Am was always chewing on a toothpick.

Was not legal, but I once drove from Monahans Texas to my home in Northeast Georgia. Had an emergency and had a make way for the red ball express attitude!
