I’m looking into buying my truck and tanker trailer to haul water or possibly crude. I’ve hauled crude for 4 years and water for 3yrs. I know I have to have an MC,DOT,LLC, truck insurance,UCR,2290,BOC-3, and IFTA.
My question is what other permits or licensing do I need if any?
Also I had a bad year last year, laid off in February and got two tickets in my personal vehicle (one a 15+),perfect timing right. If I have my own insurance and all the goodies is it still possible to hire on to a company? I’m askin because I see a lot ask for clean records. I really need to get to work but stupid record prevents me from being hired as company driver so I’m kind of being forced to do what I’ve always wanted to...be an O.O. Thanks
Trying to become oilfield O.O....

Slim pickings out there for O/O’s in the ND oilfield.
Ive been trying a bunch of places for water tanker and the best I could find is $90/ hour to your pocket after they take their fees.
I don’t want to haul crude so I don’t know that market.
Depending what states you’re in you might need a solid waste disposal permit ( $75 in ND ) everything else looks good though.
Lots of places are requiring more insurance too.
3-5 million umbrella
1 million pollution
100k cargo
+ your normal truck insurance -
In the Permian the companies won't give you work unless you have at least 10 trucks, so your best bet would be to lease on to a carrier that already has contracts.
Also, those two tickets and whatever else that's preventing you from being hired on as a company driver, combined with the fact that you're a new o/o, are going to make it very expensive for you to get insurance or might even make you uninsurable.
I'm not trying to discourage you, I just want to let you know what you're up against so that you can go into this with your eyes open. Good luck man.Brettj3876 and kemosabi49 Thank this. -
