If your numbers are what I think they are. That’s not horrible
But where a lot and I mean A LOT of guys lose it is when I hear a paid for truck or something like that ( not directed at you. Just in general )
People need to figure in that payment wether it is paid for or not because at some point you need to replace or repair it
I see many buy a truck. Run all over for that $1.20 all in freight then when they need tires they can’t figure out what happened to their plan
That said. Back to your question on how to make more
Most all trucking job pay based on your personal liability
For instance a truck bumping docks has next to zero liability but Oversize, car haulers, and Flatbed type haulers are responsible for securing the load etc
The more you have to physically do the more you’ll usually make
Also where you run can greatly change your bottom line such as NYC
I don’t personally run to NYC much but do run pretty much anywhere else that has a good rate
I can also run a littler cheaper on a 3000 mile run Vs guys who run 2-300 miles
Those short runs to me make it seem like I’m always at work
Get me loaded Monday and I can ride 700 plus miles a day all week and it works

I figure about $0.10 PM for maintenance and that will be more or less depending on equipment but my truck is under warranty and trailer is basic PM stuff
Get yourself to a point where you have $30-40,000 in the bank for a bad day and you will be able to breath
The more you “ breath “ the less stress and the more options you have
You won’t be married to your job which is a bad place to be
A friend who is a pilot never made a car payment
He bought a used car for cash. Made a fake payment to a savings account every month then after 4 years he bought a new bmw. Cash. Then did the same thing
Last I heard. He traded his cars in for new every 3 years and still pays the cash
You can work it like that
If you want to make more $ you may have to change the route but I assume with your gig you could stop buy the house going each way?
There’s value in that too

New is what I prefer and has worked for me for the most part
I think the payments made one way or the other
Either it’s to a bank on new or repair shop on used
Now. If you can wrench. Have found a solid truck. Then that’s a plus
The last two truck I sold the buyers both got solid. Well maintained trucks as I get dot inspections done every 90 days by a local shop and both had new Michelin’s all the way around on and nothing was needed to be done -

Been with them about 7 years and really no issues other than your typical bump here and there
For the most part it’s about the same as running under my own numbers minus the office part
They pay 90% of line haul and all fsc minus like a couple bucks of the fsc side
If you use their fuel card they take 13% of the line haul but you get their fuel discount which is usually anywhere from $0.40 to $0.80 or more depending on where you fuel and what State
I did the math awhile back and figured if I saved $0.35 then that 3% for using their card was close to a wash
Now if I save $0.70 or so then I dip into that 10% and bing it down to 7%
If that makes sense?
I have always worked for myself but others there who have been with different companies say if you’re a Company driver it’s as close to being an O/O and if an O/O it’s as close to being a Company in the sense they handle everything for you and they have a good safety departmentThe_Great_Corn and avpfreight Thank this. -

Check their website. All their company trucks are newer and nice graphics
Most all O/O’s have nice trucks also
