de Havilland Canada DHC-6 Twin Otter - WikipediaTrucker61016, not4hire, hotrod1653 and 1 other person Thank this. -
Being used quite a bit in Alaska and by RCAF as well. Mostly up in the NW Territory and Yukon Provinces. I’ve also seen them in use for Luka, Nepal so climbers can get to Mt Everest.

They are an absolute workhorse without compare and in use in every area of the globe, including both north and south polar regions. Almost all the Twin Otters operating in the Antarctic (anywhere from 10-30 in a season) are serviced and/or based out of the Calgary region. That's quite an annual migration as they all go to and return from every season.
The final assembly of the current model (400 Series) was next door to where I hung my hat for awhile. However, due to some design decisions and escalating costs, they are nowhere near as popular as the "legacy" series (100 - 300). That has been really good for the used market though.
Here is a Twin that didn't fare so well on take-off at Simikot, Nepal. However, after we evaluated it, it looked a lot worse than it was. It was disassembled and heli-lifted off the mountain, put in a container and shipped to Calgary for import and repair, and it's back working with another operator.
