When I was in Jersey there were companies that would help you get your own authority. It was like a $1000. But the insurance 6 years ago was 12 to 18k. Half had to be paid upfront. People in Iowa were paying 10k for the whole year. Then to get a trailer, no one would rent one to me. So I leased on, with Mercer, I do better with land star.

Checks Craigslist too. I think great wide has a load board. Labs star does.

I'm really glad you're here asking questions.

Leasing on to somewhere is really good for you to get started because you can learn more about this other stuff without being overwhelmed and you can still do really well for yourself.

And just a little bit of advice.

Make sure you start out with the best truck that you can. Not too fancy not the shiniest but the one that's going to start and run every day and be dependable and make you money.

Make sure that you have plenty of money so that if you need to have it repaired then that you can afford it and you can still pay your bills and you can keep going. That's the main thing that causes people to go belly-up.

And make sure that when you get paid you take a little tiny bit and you put the rest away for your truck and your business and your taxes. If you live a more frugal life and your first concern is always having money for your business and for your truck so that no matter what it needs you taking care of your business first that's the path you need to be on.

And have as little debt as possible when you start. Sometimes it isn't that you're not making money but when you have debt right out of the gate you have a high hurdle that you have to get over and it doesn't take as much to knock you down.

Those are the things that will lead you to success.

Thanks for the info. No debt so far. Truck is just parked sitting for now until I'm ready. Deciding which road to take based on everyone's input.
