    Hello all,

Can't seem to find the answer to this question anywhere so I will throw it to the forum and see what I get back.

I have been driving for 18mo's now and still love driving truck,,,I know, hard to believe but, I do. Anyway, it took me a year to get my wife in the truck and when she finally came out on the road with me, for two weeks, she loved it. My plan since day 5, or so, has to get my own truck and the wife and I run as a team. She likes the idea and Lord willing all will work out that way come 2011 sometime, after I get back from Iraq, or wherever I go. I will be able to save up enough money to buy a truck when I get back and, if I buy one while on orders, it will be tax free:biggrin_25525:. My wife will attend a college nearby for her CDL training.

My question is this: will she fall under my authority or the company I lease to? Will she have to go through the company training, ride with a trainer for whatever time and than be able to be my partner or will she be considered my employee and not have to go through their training?

Thanks for any incite to this question,
    SGT Hill

depends on the company or how you lease/ buy the truck... check it out make the best decision for you...

Trucks are cheap right now because of the turn over. and being a vet you have lots of financial opportunities so check all of them out.

The cost for the CDL will be covered by the Military but, none of this will be done until I get back from Iraq. I would love to buy a truck now but no can do.

So being an I/C isn't just straight across the board for all companies I might lease onto?

If you were to go independent with your own authority then you can make the rules. Long as the almight insurance company is cool.

When you lease to a company its their authority and their rules. Kinda like the gooberment, its their sandbox, we just play in it. Each one will be different.
As long as you have their minimum experience requirements and probably have to take their "train the trainer" class you stand a good chance to be able to train her, without her going on another truck.

Thank you for your service to our country! Stay safe and come home.

That's right . The person I work for has 25 trucks leased to a carrier and they call the shots on hiring and firing . Applications are only accepted through corporate .

I just thought I'd throw in here that you don't need to worry about the taxes, MC#s are as good as a tax exempt number, at least in TN, so you don't need to rush into buying when you get back. Thanks for your service, neighbor.

    Hey thanks Josh.c
Could you fill me in a little more what you mean about the taxes? I know what an MC# is but don't you just get that when you get your own authority?

    Thanks for support brother...

More clearly: any purchases you make for a business process, capital equipment, consumable materials - good - commodities, etc., you do not pay taxes on when you purchase them. The tax is deferred until your end of year tax filing when you pay taxes on capital income, etc..

You do eventually pay them, there is no tax discount. Just not when you make the purchase.
