I would say that men benifit when women drink....

Ur right. excessives drinking causes other problems, heart problems. I had cardiomyopathy and got a transplant because of excessive drinking. Needless to say I've lost my taste for the stuff 4 some reason and a six will set in refer for months.

The study says drinking reduces the risk of heart disease...and your saying in your case, it enhanced or sped up heart issues...
There's a contridiction here...were you eating lot's of red meat? or smoking?
How did alcohol directly cause your health issue??U4EA Thanks this. -
The problem with the study I read, is it focused on mainly wine drinking and took no account into other factors. If one is wealthy (which is likely, to afford a glass of wine a day) one usually ha better insurance, less stress, etc.. that could easily take into account of the better health.

Ideally I would just like to have a few drinks per day. I like wine but I also like a good Stout beer.
But I don't really care for getting drunk.nckid Thanks this. -
The guy that did the study was a drunk, lol. One-two drinks a day acts as a blood thinner just like aspirin. Excessive drinking causes hardening of the arteries making plaque easy to attach too. A study done by the American Heart Association.
The problem is you can't eat just one potato chip!U4EA Thanks this. -
Your right about just being able to stop at 2-3 drinks, be it beers or wine or whatever...
People drink for the 'buzz'...and once you get the buzz, you want more buzz...cause the buzz feels better than before you had the buzz...
So in that aspect your correct...it's hard to dicipline yourself to just 1-2 drinks a day, unless maybe your from Europe and diciplined from an early age to drink only with dinner...
But if your German, forget about it, all bets are off that you'll stop at just one beer...U4EA Thanks this. -
The ultimate DETERMINING factor for health issues is genetics. Most people are more susceptible to disease due to genetic predisposition; supposed "unhealthy" habits or vices (i.e. drinking, smoking, etc.) only exacerbates the pre exsiting condition.
My 88 year old granfather (mothers side) was a heavy drinker his entire life, and at this point, has never been admitted to the hospital for anything other than a broken ankle growing up and is currently taking no medications.
My other grandfather is 95, smoked from 12 - 80 years old; diagnosed with emphysema in the 80's. Almost 20 years later, the emphysema diagnosis was obviously erroneous. His mind and memory are extremely sharp going onto his 96th year; he actually still drives (even though he definitely shouldn't be).
I'm in no way insinuating that some people can do whatever they want with no health repercussions; I'm just a firm believer that your genetics ultimately determines your health.
