Thanks guys ... As mentioned I was able to get this at a price I couldn't pass up so I purchased it as a back up to my Galaxy 99 which is long gone. How would you rate this with the 99 or others.

That should be a great radio. As a stand-alone, it has more power than the 99 (which is what I run). I'm just assuming that they are similar to the Galaxy 48t and the Connex 4600, which are known to be good radios. Really, the only thing the 99 has that your radio doesn't is a large meter and SSB, and SSB doesn't work well on a 99 anyway. I guess the 99 also has robot voice and voice changer, but who needs that garbage? I think that will be a great sounding radio with good receive, you'll probably like it better than your 99. You need to make sure your SWR is good, that radio will get hot in a hurry with high SWR.

does your 99 wander a little on SSB or is it pretty stable ??
-
It wanders. I guess that's why I say it's not great for SSB. I have a 93t that I got to try out SSB on, but I ended up never using it for that, although it was very stable. I also had a Philippines Grant for the same thing, but I like my big meter! But yeah, the 99 even drifts through the day with temperature extremes. If it's under 40 or so, it'll show 27.187 until it warms up.

We hooked up the radio tonight with a Wilson 1000 ... Match is 1.2-1 ... Recieves well and talks well. I am very pleased with the 6300. I don't care if I can't talk to the next state but I do care that it talks w/o interfering with thise around me. Again I appreciate all your feedback.
josh.c Thanks this. -

Ok...I errored. When I got it out to take a good look at it... it doesn't have the big heat sink on the bottom ... It does have a big heat sink commming out of the back where the ant. attaches. I think the tech said it was putting out over 50w... I told him I didn't care about the ability to talk over someone but clear transmission with good reception was inportant to me. He said the ant. plays a very big role in the operation of the CB and the Wilson ioj his opinion was a very goood mag mount ant. It works fine with the Cig. lighter for the power source. It is a 2001 model. Not sure if the technology has changed that much since 2001 but the Tech did say the was a very good unit.

The heat sink coming out the back is standard for dual-final radios, which is what that is. You really are probably better off with that one than the big 150 watt version for your purposes, less stuff to worry about as far power supply and grounding. They stopped making the 1969 finals a couple of years ago, so a few things have changed since everything's changed over to mosfet finals, but that's still a perfectly good radio.

Nothing wrong with Wilson that antenna should work well for you..
