I pulled reefers for 18 years and liked it.
Received stop pay when I logged arriving , then hourly pay after the first hour. If it was so bad as some think, I wouldn't have done it for 18 years.
Lots of night time driving with hot coffee and good radio station.

Some customers just suck. Period.
On more than one occasion I have asked the dock supervisor if I can close the doors until they are ready to load.
Plan accordingly -
Yall are better then me I love my turn and burns but I see the plus in reefer if you deckout you truck with all them toy you can fit in there I just enjoy seeing a town for a hour or so while I load and off to the next spot until I get done and on my way home
Chinatown Thanks this. -

Sucking warm air into trailer with unit running is a no-no. However sometimes you need to adjust to the situation. Is the customers dock direct into their cold storage ? Does the customer want the unit running ? It's not going to do much good to load the product into a mal-functioning unit and then have to go to Carrier to have it worked on. Right ?

I would not shut the reefer off they may say that the load was compromised and then it will be on you. Call dispatch or broker and ask why it’s taking so long.

1. Driver has to give 2 hours of free waiting before Detention starts.
2. Dispatcher schedules multiple stops (2 free hours at each stop).
3. Dispatcher schedules Stop 2 15 minutes after Stop 1 while Stop 1 & 2 are 75 miles apart. If you arrive late, no Detention pay.
4. Customer has an appointment window and you only get Detention 2 hours after the end of the window. Window could be from Midnight to Midnight.
"We pay drivers $100 per hour for detention, so far no driver has ever qualified for it."sevenmph Thanks this. -
All driver's should be paid for all of their on duty time when in the service of their company. If you choose to except something less, that's on you. And if someone comes back and says, that's the way it works, then you are part of the problem. That's why the companies won't ever change. The world of OTR trucking and the way driver's are treated and paid is a joke. But hey, if that floats your boat, more power to you.
