So, I've been looking at a new phone. We have AT&T for my wife's phone, and I really can't complain. I've been using a Virgin mobile prepaid with the unlimited plan, and liked it until recently. It seems once Sprint finished the merger, the service took a dive. I've had nothing but trouble, and have tried replacing the phone and contacting customer service. I'm done.
So, now I'm looking at phones to add to our AT&T plan, and I'm really leaning towards the iPhone. I use an iPod Nano in the truck now, and love it. I would be able to have my iPod, and phone in one device. Also, the podcasts I listen to would update automatically without having to tie it to the computer. Add to that all the other rockin' stuff the Iphone can do, and I'm a giddy guy.
However, I've heard mixed reviews from people, and want to know if there may be a better phone option. Keep in mind, it will have to be one AT&T offers. I'd like it to have similar functionality in regards to web, audio, video, and things like that.
So, anything compare or should I just say screw it and get the iPhone?

My wife and I have had an iPhone for a couple of months now. We absolutely love it. Our ONLY complaint is that the battery life isn't so great, and the cord that came with it to charge the thing isn't designed for the rough life of a trucker.
We got an iFrogz (I think is how they spell it) case for the thing, and it has been well worth the investment. That case is beat to hell, but the phone itself is in almost like new condition. The AT&T store sells them, and for a discount if you buy them when you get the phone. We got some press on screen protectors and the iFrogz and have had no complaints with that part. -
My wife has a 1st gen Iphone and it leaves much to be desired. The voice quality is horrible and the ringer needs to be louder. If those things are fixed on the 3GS then the only downside is AT&Ts horrible 3G coverage. There are some leaked photo's from China showing a possible Verizon Iphone. If that happenes my 5phones with AT&T will be cancelled and I'll add verizon phone service to go with my Verizon data plan.

I've become almost dependent on mine, being able to have the internet and data availability at my fintertips. I've had some issues near my home with 3G, but it's because there have been tower problems. They seem to have fixed it, so I don't have many complaints now. I've yet to upgrade the software to 3.1 since there is no outside tether capability with that, they fixed the loophole for that. Normally it's not an issue, but I do some DJ type of events that I like to have my macbook tethered to the internet if there's no wifi available.
The extra $30/mo for the data plan sucks, but what'cha gonna do?....
I love mine and wouldn't change it. I know I'm not talking you out of it, but just telling my experience with it.. -
I'm pretty sure I'm getting the new 3GS, but I really wanted to hear how some of the other drivers are liking it or disliking it.

Go play with the Motorola Droid from Verizon. You will talk yourself out of an i-Phone.

My brother has a 3G iPhone, and my wife and I got a 3Gs. The 3Gs is MUCH MUCH MUCH better.
As far as the "horrible 3G coverage," the Edge network AT&T uses when the 3G isn't available seems just as fast in a lot of areas. Other than some areas of New Mexico and Utah where there's no civilization, we haven't had issues with the speed of the data network. -
They are nothing but a big fad. Next year at this time, cell phones will just be a memory, just like them there hula-hoops.!!!

I have the second gen iphone and I love it!!! I hardly even have a use for my computer anymore.
