Greetings folks. I'm new to the OTR side of trucking and have only straight truck experience for the past 3 years. I'm currently in training with a company and have 100 hours left on the mandatory behind the wheel with a trainer counter.

The burning question for me is where can I find a good company here in Southern California that will take minimal big truck experience? I was hoping for the dedicated route that was promised in school but that promise is as good as the paper it was written on and is worth a good chuckle whenever I bring it up to drivers in the company. I don't want 48 states!

I've done my miltary time and have been gone for loooong periods of time and don't want that anymore, even if it is only 3-4 weeks.

Does anyone know of a local carrier, i.e; fuel carriers, car haulers, LTL, or anything of the sort that I can apply to?

    Any help is appreciated.

:yes2557: Yes, there are lots of trucking companies local in SoCall. However, most trucking companies require at least one year experience OTR and up depending on what your hauling and the company you choose

How much experience did you say you have?

There are a lot of otr companies that have yards in southern cal, that need local drivers to just pick up and deliver loads coming into cal. England, Central Refrigerated they are in mira loma and fontana(not to far from riverside) there is walmart distribution for produce right there in riverside. I know they drivers that just run from the farms, (central cal) back and forth to riverside. They are located on Fleetwood Dr. off of Market st and pomona frwy. It should not be hard finding a local job in southern cal. You can check the ports too. Good luck

Thanks to all that have replied. I applied at Crete online today and will look into the others.

My school was located in Riverside, just around the corner from Inland Cold Storage. With my first trainer, I was on a reefer, er I mean TCU and was doing some Wally World produce for a couple of days.

    Thanks again.

Ashley furniture out of Colton, Ca. runs regional. Pays good, but you do have to tailgate the blanket wrapped stuff. (for any newbies, tailgate means get the load to the rear of the trailer only). KKW out of Pomona, Ca. isn't a bad company either.
