i am a recent graduate from a cdl school. the school said i would not have any problems with my background though since i have been looking for a career i am seeing differently. my background is 1996 sale or furnishing alcohol to minors- misdemeanor, was a fine. 1996 theft by unlawful taking and theft by deception dual misdemeanors, house arrest 4 months. and 2003 theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property - on my record there is no misdemeanor or felony mentioned though it was a misdemeanor, 6 months house arrest. my question is does anyone know of any companies that will hire me to drive? by the way my work history is immaculant and all my employers will verify my excellent work ethic and never or rarely missing work, only about 5 days in 9 years.
Just starting out question

You may find a job with the carolina outfit. Can't remember the name exactly, someone will throw it out there. They're a second chance company. Other than that, you've got a lot of footwork in front of you.
Be advised though...your school flat out LIED to you.
I would rank "theft" about third in line for seriousness. Right behind drugs and reckless endangerment.
Cargo (sometimes valued in the millions) security is a deciding factor with many of the larger companies. And that always comes up, when they look at your background.kickin chicken Thanks this. -
Carolina Cargo - Rock Hill, SC.
Last I heard they were going out of business, maybe just a rumor

Also MPW Industrial Services in Rockport , IN . MPW requires quite a bit of physical work setting up vacuum lines and 1 1/2 " waterblast hoses but it's a job with good chance of advancement. Have you tried Tyson ?kickin chicken Thanks this. -
what about SWIFT i have heard and read they will take people with felonies.
Best of luck. -
The rumor is, that they will run their remaining trucks until their warranties expire and then focus primarily on freight brokerage.
They have declared bankruptcy several times before, changed names and continued to run... so, only time will tell.
Best of Luck to You!!!

There are lot's of drivers out of work right now with good or even great records. You really don't stand much of a chance, nor should you. Any company thats going to take you with that record is probably going to rip you off. -

Yep, those theft charges will be working against you for a few years at least and that CDL Mill took you pretty good too! I'd think of lawyering up and go after them! At lest get your money back!
NOW, with the overabundance of drivers out there looking for a job your applications WILL go to the bottom of the pile. I'm lecturing now but you did pretty much screwed up your life and you knew it each time you even THOUGHT of doing what you did. Until those things get 10 years old you'll always be the last guy in line. Sorry to be blunt but you'd do best to get your money from that bottom feeder that told you that you could get hired and try to go to a community college and get some other training that can get you work now. Besides trucking right now bites to be candid! I've got 32 years and I'm having trouble trying to get work! I'm even taking computer courses through the state to give me an edge as no one is hiring old farts with experience!
Good Luck dude
