Can a truck have blow by but not use oil

    C15 acert about 200k on gold unframe. Slight smoke coming from crankcase tube. Doesn't seem to happen all the time. Just went 10k and didn't use a drop of oil.

    All diesel engines have blow by even straight from the factory. Blow by comes from the fact that the rings aren’t pushed up against the liners from the added combustion pressure from the air forced in by the turbo and thats why blow by is measured with a load on the engine.

    Yes. I had a 2007 W900 with an ACERT that had more crap coming out the blowby tube than the smoke stack. Sold it in December 2013 with over 800k on the clock on the original engine and it NEVER burned a thimble full of oil. Almost 19,000 hours.

    ACERTS are famous for blowby anyway especially if they used original compression ratio pistons (usually 18:1) when they overhauled it.
