I'm solar powered now but when I ran nights I haaated the feeling I got during sunrise after driving all night. I do like night driving though.
Company hours that you just say no to as a local driver?

I am the lazy sort.
I like daytime hours and don't like 34 resets, so I average my hours to about 8-10 hours each day so I can run recap hours.
Running strange hours because 'that is trucking' has never worked for me.
This is a job like any other, to me. And I have options that I can use to keep my schedule pretty consistent.
Having a good safety score and on-time record goes a long way in this business, as does a good relationship with the people I work with.TokyoJoe Thanks this. -
Ive been on a 3/2/2 6pm to 6am non rotating shift for 6 years , ive about had enough , my neighbors think im a alcoholic drinking beer on my deck at 615 am.

One thing I like about the company im with is they always try to have you leaving by 12pm on saturday. Granted you may have to come in at 1am sometimes. It doesnt always work that way but they try hard to stick to that.
Some may call me a wimp but I need my occasional saturday off. If it was a hard running week with early start times ive been known to sleep 13+ hours to catch up. -
How about owner telling you they got new ruling on 8/2 split.
Drive 8 hours.
2 hour break.
Drive another 8 hours.
I told him he’s dreaming. -

Local...
I started out in a beer truck. Unfortunately for me, the company I started with hired salespeople to pre-sell the beer. They would go by the stops the day before, and the drivers would deliver the next day. This arrangement was brand new.
The problem was that the sales dorks were not going into the stops and counting the beer. Our main beer was Coors. Not trying to sound racist or anything, or offend anyone...just making a point, BUT black people do not drink Coors. A sales dork would want a 50-100 case 12 pack can display in a black neighborhood grocer that won’t move 2 cases in 12 months! I was paid $.15/case, but if I had to pick up beer that passed their date, they charged me $7.44/case. See a problem with that? And get this...they’d tell you that you have to throw the beer in the dumpster. Not happening, I paid for this stuff, it’s going to the house with me.
“Driver, you cannot sell that beer!”
I am going to give it away.
“Six, you are an A Hole.”
Drink responsibly.
So, I would start out of the house at 4am, hit the big grocery stores, then hit all the convenience stores, and then the bars. Beer was COD. By the time I got back home, it would be 11pm.
“But Six, you were able to sleep in your own bed.”
If I had a sleeper truck instead of a daycab, I would have stayed in the sleeper. You can run local and be home every day and still be living in a truck.Brettj3876, WesternPlains, lester and 1 other person Thank this. -

I did trash like that for 7 years. I get more home time OTR now. -
Bottom feeder companies schedule you any way they want. ... they have no care or concern for your health and well-being.
Better quality companies tend to schedule you more into a 8-5 Monday through Friday plan.
Bottom feeders are Swift , Knight , Werner , England , Roehl etc
Better quality are JR Schugel , Dart , Transport America , Interstate Distributor.
I’m delivering my current load tomorrow morning at 0900 after I nice and leisurely weekend drive. I can’t remember the last time I had one of those “ how in the hell am I going to get that there then !?!?!? “
