What to do if you've lost product on the way to receiver?

No, sorry I wasn't clear enough. The turbo is only about 5 hours labor but it's going to take a few days to come in.
The $8500 is after tax and everything. There is an add on of $270 to have the charge air cooler cleaned since oil went into it but it passed its test. So without that it's about $8200 and some change for the turbo and actuator install.

Pretty bummed it went out at 430,000 miles on the truck though. Since I've had it I do pretty good maintenance changing the oil and filters every 10-12k miles religiously. My last oil analysis showed no problems and ended with "nice cummins" from the lab but I guess nothing from the turbo side of things would have showed up on that.

Since it's all already going to be opened up I'm going to ask them to check the doser while they are in there. It would be nice if they would give it a quick cleaning to keep it spraying well but I'm not going to get my hopes up.

 

Now so the embarrassing part I suppose. It was one of those flatbed loads that had some cardboard boxes of parts and whatnot on the front. I always use two straps on those types of pallets because I don't like to crush them more than necessary. I also had a DOT in Montana during my very first inspection as a newly minted driver get on me about the weight of the boxes requiring two straps but he would let it slide, probably because I looked and sounded like I had the flu at the time and he wasn't sure about the weights of the boxes. I took it as a message to just put two straps everytime and don't tempt fate.
The pallets on this load had fairly small boxes all stacked up but one on the passengers side had an odd number on top, stacked in the center in a kind of second layer of a pyramid shape. I put my usuall two straps across and left the shipper.
Not long after I left some of the plastic wrap was coming undone from the boxes but I didn't think to much of it because it's not really that uncommon of a thing to happen. Usually you just wait until you've got a safe spot to pull over and trim or tuck it in to fix the problem. This time though I was in the city and actually saw a box come off and go clattering down the interstate shoulder and open up. It was ruined and I couldn't pull over if I wanted to.
I got off as soon as I could and saw what had happened. The plastic wrap had pulled down from the wind and since the straps were on either side the top boxes on the pyramid I mentioned were unsecured. One had blown off but thankfully the rest were just jostled. I put on a third strap in the middle with edge protectors to keep them more secure and began worrying all way to the receiver.

So I did something incredibly stupid and embarrassing for an an open deck guy to do, violated rule member one, and seem to have lucked out that it didn't hurt me or anyone else.

Lesson learned and I've used the companies products I was hauling for in the past, if it ever comes up again I will use them in the future to give a little business back for their letting me off the hook. I wish I could say who and what it was to give them a little credit but im sure anyone reading this understands why I can't.
