They were open...most port of entrys in Oregon that I've been through are always open...like Ashland, Richmond, hubbard Oregon by Woodburn...
It varies from state to state if they are closed and still give you the green light which is sneaky because they know who is coming through

I prefer green light when closed like most states do. Isn't it Oregon that when scales are closed no green/red on prepass?

Sometimes they forget to turn off the pre-pass signal on a closed scale. You are free to bypass the scale house if the sign says that it's closed. That's true in every state. Oregon, California and Washington frequently have the pre-pass on when the scale house is closed.

You are giving out bad info. In the Pre Pass instructions it literally says “Driver MUST FOLLOW in cab signals.” The same as the sign on the highway tells you to follow “in cab” signals.

I've talked to a half dozen Oregon, California and Washington DOT officers that would say you're the one giving out bad information. When I first started driving I got a red light on my pre-pass and entered the Oregon POE even though the sign said it was closed. The DOT officer stood on the scale and asked if I had a problem reading, and then proceeded to chew me out for entering a closed scale house.

Situations change for the DOT agents and they don't always coordinate the pre-pass with the sign board on the highway. They may be on a lunch break, or just gone home for the night and forgotten to turn off the pre-pass sensor. I've literally passed dozens of scales that have given me a red light and not pulled in because the sign says CLOSED. Not once have I had a problem.

In the literature that comes in the box with your Pre Pass, it specifically instructs you to follow in cab signals. Again, they also state this on the highway signs.

By the way, fly by an Ohio weigh station that is closed but gave you a red light & you will get chased down and get a ticket for running the weigh station.

I’ve become convinced that the scale masters at the Oregon scale at mm 274 on i5 threw the prepass instructions in the trash long ago. I go thru there a lot and there is no pattern to how they run the lights.

Yeah, but the mixed signals are confusing and they should get their #### together. I also had a red light on a closed scale on I84 coming into Portland. I kept going. I was kind of new at the time and just waiting for a big fat fine. It didn’t happen, thankfully. Next time I’m going in.

Klamath Falls really is the back of beyond though. It's probably a pre-retirement posting.

...always open in the daytime though. Everything that comes out of that area is heavy so I'm sure the scale house software will wake the guy up if you're overweight.
