Is it just me or are other newbies hearing this also? I've been filling out applications and calling companies for a couple weeks. So far, I've gone from "We can't hire you if you've been fired from your last job," to "Everything looks good, but we don't have any openings until January." Am I still being screwed over or are others out there hearing the same thing? At this point, I don't care who I go with, I just wanna get out in a truck. This January thing is kind of a mixed blessing. It allows me to spend the holidays with the family, and I also have a couple appointments in Jan that I need to be here for, but at the same time, I've been out of work too long and I need to get to work.

Anyone else hearing this? Any thoughts or opinions?

Normally, trucking slows down in Dec, through Jan/Feb. Most retail stores have their inventory onsite for the holiday period. A lot of businesses actually close down for the week between Xmas/New years. Most everyone is thinking about travel plans, families, parties, eating etc. Not everyone wants to attend orientation around Xmas. So, just put your application on the back burner and wait for Jan. The drivers that are already working can work through Xmas week more than likely if they want.

When I said I don't care who I go with, I don't mean that "I don't care." I simply mean that I will work for anybody at this point. And it doesn't matter what company it is, I will be a dependable, loyal, faithful, and hard working employee. That is the kind of person I am. I even recommended the company that screwed me (and yes, I still maintain I got screwed. You weren't there, you don't know the situation and you don't know me, so keep your opinions on that to yourself, thank you.) to another newbie who asked me about them. In spite of what happened, I would go back to them after I gained some experience...if they would hire me of course.

Trust me, I'll be doing what I gotta do, even if it means flipping burgers for a month. UPS might be hiring where you live, but I doubt if they are anywhere near here.

And when have you ever heard of a trucking company being polite? Everyone else has had no problems at all telling me I'm not qualified, either due to being terminated or just not enough experience.

Some will flat out tell you no and others will just put you off......after you have been out here a while you learn to read between the lines..

    perhaps its your attitude ??
