If the OP's radio is a Cobra 29, then VR6 needs to be adjusted in order to stop the antenna light from coming on. Unfortunately the factory doesn't do a very good job of testing. There are other threads on this forum dealing with this same subject.

You are wrong. The antenna light is suppose to come on when the antenna's swr is high, like 3.1 or more. Doesn't matter if you are talking. Just FYI.Bwakers Thanks this.

It sounds like either a high swr problem,or you need to get your ant light on your radio adjusted.
If a shop ran new coaxle, they should have checked swr,so i'll go with the 2nd. -
Just a little FYI.
some times those cheap variable resistors that are used on these radio will change their wiper position with the vibration of the truck or vehicle.
so when I have done is to use a paint pen to just put a drop of paint on the wiper away from contact point to keep it from moving.handlebar and Night Stalker10 Thank this. -
Man if I put paint on my wipers, I won’t be able to see . Just kidding. Yes I have decided that the issue is internally on the radio. I’m going to get this one in the shop and buy another one for now. Any info on a Uniden 980SSB

Just going by my radio manufacturers radio instructions?
But what do they know they just make the radio.
I’m sure they never actually used a radio before so that’s probably why they made the mistake in the instructions.Naptown Muduck Thanks this. -
MFJ MOBILE TUNER costs a few shekels -- even more than some popular radios -- but works at home base. Imagine road, too. I use for amateur radio too.

What radio is this? I've never seen it in the cobra 29 radios instructions book. I've owned (and still do) several 29 radios and none of them had the antenna warning light come on or blink while transmitting. If it does then you probably have RF ground issues with your antenna system. Common mode current on the coax could make the AWI light flicker while talking. Or VR6 is mis-adjusted. The only red light that should be on while keying up the mic, is the RX/TX light.Last edited: Apr 15, 2021
Bwakers Thanks this. -
Just wondering if your radio is a new 29 ltd classic? Or is it older? -
On page 6 of the cobra 29 ltd manual on the internet, it says... NOTE: antenna indicator LED will illuminate when TX if SWR is high.
-
My light as per the instruction manual lights up red when transmitting and flashes only when there is an SWR issue?
