First yes i know manifold divider is starting to crack, need to replace it
Also clearly i need to replace the turbo
Whats everyones guess on running half a week on it while parts get here though?
Smart money is on just letting it sit till its actually fixed, yes i know that.
Discovered this when it started whistling under load and found it had busted the short bolt on the manifold under the turbo and blown out the gasket.
Took it down, only had to drill out 4 of 12 exhaust bolts, was impressed with that.
Was inspecting getting ready to reinstall and on a whim took apart the turbo and unbolted it from the manifold.
Picks
1. Cracking inside turbo
2. Turbo side manifold divider cracking
3. Manifold divider cracking
4. Turbo to manifold gasket
Cat 6nz turbo question run or sit?

You got it apart why waste the time putting it back together, just to take it apart again?? Enjoy the down time, spend it with family/friends.
skallagrime, Brettj3876, singlescrewshaker and 1 other person Thank this. -
Parentheses is my preference, just depends on how bad those other loads need run, im losing money to the downtime any way i look at it, its a matter of how much for how long.Roberts450 Thanks this. -

Money is Not everything .Better Waiting
skallagrime, John E. and Roberts450 Thank this. -

I know waiting sucks but at this point all you need is a manifold center section and a hot housing. If you run you could potentially damage the turbine wheel which will most likely damage the compressor wheel and potentially send debris into the intercooler and possibly engine.

Okay, ill bite, my local cat house wants 1650 JUST for the hot housing and a week of shipping
On shelf
Reman turbo at 2200 ($895 core)
OR 79 23
Brand new at 3500 no core
1679271
Center manifold peice 480$
Gimme a good reason not to buy 3 or 4 jm turbos on amazon for 600$ and change em yearly as preventative maintenance?
Or a pdi full set with ceramic manifold at 3500$
Etc etc -
This has me thinking, when should you take a turbo apart to inspect for problems?
This could have been catastrophic but im not letting it hit that point through dumb luck, i just wanted to replace the bolts on the manifold to turbo cause i thought it would make manifold installation easier -
I’d call around for better prices. I bought a non-waste gate BW from Turbo Exchange for $1600 with no core about two years ago.
