The engine. The bunk heater. Or my preferred method if you’re talking dealing with snow, tire chains and a log violation the next state border that doesn’t have all the white ######## that gets guys stuck and shuts down highways.
-middle finger to the Midwest blizzard of 2019- I earned that egregious violation
Keeping yourself warm overnight when idling is not an option.

I’ve used sleeping bags to -10F
Those heated mattress pads work pretty good, but get the one with the thermostat control. More money, but works much better.
Espar or Webasto is a must up here in Canada. I use them down to -25F then leave it running under that. -
i gotva espar d2 airtop with a thermostat, its bin problem free for 6 years, just put a new screen in before winter every year, also got a webasto coolent heater on a timer and set it before start up time have it plumbed into my fuel heater to warm fuel also, saves money on fuel but i do it to save wear n tear , iv never once ideled my truck for a night

I do a wood burning stove, and since switching over I tell you what, I haven't looked back. Most shippers have broken pallets they just give away, so the fuel is free. Not to mention has a nice ambiance on a snowy winter night. I sometimes like to do Smores with a mug of hot chocolate.
Flat Earth Trucker, TheStopSignGuy, uncleal13 and 2 others Thank this. -
In the absence of a thin native girl, I use a diesel heater.
They're also useful for cushioning on hard sand beaches.
The girl that is, not so much the diesel heater.Flat Earth Trucker Thanks this. -
Does your truck alert you to low battery voltage? If so why not plug in a twin size electric blanket underneath a pile of regular blankets and let it run all day. It will warm up the mattress and the blankets and take very little electricity once the truck is turned off to keep running for many hours. If the battery gets low and the truck wakes you up then obviously you would have to turn the engine on. But if it's really cold and the blanket isn't working to keep you warm enough to be comfortable you probably need to worry about the truck not starting due to gelling.... sometimes idling is not wasteful it's necessary

I sleep in double sleeping bag. hard to open eyes in the morning at -16C though as eye balls got frozen still. other than that not bad

I can't live without my Dual Webasto's (Engine/Bunk) +26'c in the truck up to -28'c outside, sleep in shorts and T shirt and my summer sheets.
God prefers Diesels and flood Thank this. -
