I don't change companies like some drivers change underwear. It bothers me a lot that my career with Dynamic lasted just about 3 months.
But I think my reasoning is sound. 3 breakdowns in 3 months is no problem. but the fact that no one answers the phone to send assistance after the hours of 5pm or before 7 am can really screw up your trip planning.
All 3 times the break down put me behind on delivery appts and I was told to go out of hours to get the load there. Once the owner of the company called me and told me to drive straight through (1200 miles) and make delivery on time. despite the fact I had sat for 17 hours waiting on the shop to return my call for a 30 minute repair.
I don't like to whine so I won't go into all the petty things..like only getting paid every 3 weeks or so or the 12 hour waits getting produce loaded for no pay.
But what I will share is this. I was involved in a minor accident involving me backing into a pickup truck. 100 percent my fault without question. But now the company is charging me $1000 for the deductable they say.
Thats my two cents...Dynamic is Bad News

Did you post on another post that you have the guy's phone number that you backed into? If you do then call him tell him that you are the one that backed into his truck and you would like to see the estimate for the repairs.
If it is cheap couple to few hunderd dollars then pay him but he needs to sign a recipt for the money that you give him in the recipt you need to put this resolves all claims against me and my company and he can not claim more damages later. Then you take that recipt and give a copy to the company so the can get off of your butt about the 1000.00 deduc.
If they still want to get the deduct then they have no legal to as it has been settled between you and the other guy. If the company tries to nail you on the dac then you can say to prospective employer that hey I paid out of my pocket for the damages not the company that is if you actually pay for the damages and not give the deduct to the company.

I have heard that works the best.

The main reason they don't answer their phones, at least aside from the fact they are undermanned inside, is they want you to foot the bill for the repair. This will get you running quicker, and you'll get reimbursed for it later. At least in theory. Reality is far different. Good luck on getting a reimbursement at a lot of companies like this.

You did exactly what you should have done. Wait for the company to send you a comcheck authorization or credit card number for the repair. Sure, this took 17 hours on one run, but imagine what you'd need to go through to get the reimbursement if you'd have paid for it out of your own wallet.

I've actually heard of idiots who were willing to drop their own dimes into the fuel tanks when they worked for sinking ships. Later they #####ed about not getting reimbursed for it and were out hundreds. Serves 'em right in my opinion. I had to say to myself "I know a way you could have avoided that problem" when they came looking for a shoulder to cry on. Yeap, those guys could have sat and waited for the company to pay the bill and kept those greenbacks in their wallets, right where they belonged.

NEVER pay out of your own pocket for repairs, parts, or fuel for somebody else's truck. Sit until the company cries uncle and flies right.

Mgassel....that has to be the best answer yet. That was well thought out. And I am going to call the man tomorrow and find out what the damage was before I speak to a lawyer.
I still don't think it is legal for a company driver to be held responsible for a deductable having not sign any such agreement. But I will let the lawyere educate me and it will all be put to rest very soon.
I really appreciate this forum it is a great way to get several opinions and see how other people think.
    thanks all:biggrin_25514:

I don't know about the deduct thing if you can be held resposible for that I do not know what the company policy is for that company.
But I have seen some companies have it in their policy's when you start that you must pay for the deduct if ever there is a porblem .
If they guy gives you any trouble for example not wanting to give you the estimate then get the lawyer to handle it you have every legal right to see how much damages you done and handle it without insurance or the companies involvement.
If you have to go to court because he will not provide a estimate you will look better in the eyes of the judge if you explain that hey I asked the guy for the estimate so we could handle it out of court with out insurance company and with out the company that I worked for being involved in it.

Good luck and once you get an estimate if you think it is inflated on the costs then look on the web for numbers of body shops in that guys area and tell them exactly what is on the estimate that you have and then they can quote you their price they guy can have his vehicle repaired but not have a free for all on the cost they have to be reasonable do not accept the dealers estimate as a low one alot of people try to use them and the judge laughs them out of court some times he or she knows thet there are good quality places for lower prices and same quality of work.

No, that deduction wasn't legal, at least it wouldn't have been in one of the most republican, pro-business, anti-labor (at least for non-mormons) states in the USA--Utah.

If this would have been illegal in Utah, it's illegal where you are. Call up your labor board and tell them you'd like to file something called a "wage claim".

I've had to file wage claims twice--one I filed against a company in my home state of Utah, another time I filed against a company in California while I was living in Utah. Both times I got all the money I was due, and it didn't take more than a couple of weeks in either case.

When I filed against the Utah company, I had to go to sort of a "court" to testify. Two insiders from my company also came to try to deny my claim, which meant they more or less attempted to intimidate me into a compromise, as that is all they had to support their side--intimidation. You may have to jump through this hoop as well. If you do, don't be intimidated. Stand your ground and do NOT compromise. I didn't compromise and got every penny I was due. It was nice to laugh in those guys faces when the hearing was over.

I've been by their yard in IL a couple times.

What amazed me was the millions upon millions of $$$$$ worth of equipment that they had mothballed.
This was back in 06 and 07.

    No idea about now.
