I know many of you dont like to chain up. Some have even left the chains unopened in the tool box. But I saw this at a local website and thought this is something we really could use!

Air activated, so we can disengage it out of the way for normal driving. Lighter than keeping chains on hand. Rubber tire on chain wheel rubs against the wheel that is trying to get traction.

On-Spot Tire Chains, from what I've found on the net, these are mostly used on fire rigs, although walking across campus this morning in the snow, I did see a delivery truck with a sticker on the front bumper that read "Automatic Tire Chains"

Interesting... Do you have that? I would like to hear from someone who has used both... traditional chains and the automatic chains. I am sure there are pro's and con's to both.

The company I used to work for ran those,....They are wonderful!!!

Just flip the switch and they drop down, get moving and flip the switch and they go up...Great for loading docks, Intersections,.etc,...But they ought to be great,..I think they run about $3000.00 for a setup,....It might be cheaper now,...

In no way do they replace real tire chains for continuous use,...

LOL agreed. I did it once on Lagrande Pass for CR England. Had some mom and pop deal for $40. The bad part was they mucked up a end and spent 2 hours just trying to ge the blasted things off. There after I didnt push the need to chain.

Why's that, I though they were legal where chains were required.

They may be legal,...But in real bad conditions I would prefer "real"chains,....

That being said I loved having the on spot chains when I had them,...

I drove for a liquor distributor make up to 50 deliveries a day in northern WI to liquor store, small taverns and resorts. They were very handy in that application just to get moving in unploughed parking lots and intersections.

We also carried regular chains for those times when it was really bad,......

Oh ok I got ya. I figured they wouldn't help much digging out of deeper snow. I took it as you saying they weren't legal as a normal tire chain replacement.

Either way when it's that bad I'll stay home, my couch doesn't need chains. I guess I'm not that dedicated.:biggrin_2559:

    112racing Thanks this.
