Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

have you tried crosby?
-
Look at Cox out of Ashland and Bowman somewhere in that Va. Md. area.
-
Have checked before at Crosby. they aren't doing too much better and just mostly run northeast and benefits are expensive.
I think i checked Bowman before they are in MD. Will look into Cox haven't checked them out yet.
Thanks. -
Beam Bros., Mountain Milk, C&T Durham, Houff, Walker, Titus, Reo, Street, Blizzard, Edwards, and I am sure that there are more, these just came off the top of my head.
-
grouch- thanks i do know of all of those. i work for one of them (hauling beer) right now and im losing everything with poor benefits and low miles. houff and beam arent hiring. edwards and crosby dont pay that great. i want to run otr also with long trips...think those are all "northeast" carriers. dont care where based from. thanks for the info though.

About all the carriers located in the Valley along 1-81 are basically "northeast" carriers. To latch on to what you describe as your "wants", you are going to have to go with a mega-truckload carrier and when you do that, you have sold your soul to the devil, kiss your family bye-bye.
This morning (Sat. Dec. 12th), the Harrisonburg paper has several ads for drivers but the ads are from U.S. Express and Werner, mega-truckload carriers.
You want miles and you want to run the whole country. Call Indian River in Winter Haven, Fl or Byrnum in Aburndale, Fl. They will put you to work and you will get your "wants". -
How about Napa? they used to be called North and South I think... or maybe Keystone I think they haul for best buy there is shenandoah too
-
Yeah have heard of Shenandoah and Napa (north/south). have considered them but they both haul mostly beer like i do now and trying to get out of. i hate being at the mercy of one customers ups and downs. like now, the coors plant will be shut down from dec. 24 to jan 2.......what the he** are the dedicated drivers supposed to do for 2 weeks???? I cant support my family being home for that long without working. It must be nice to be able to close "shop" for that long, i wish i could afford it.
And, Grouch......i have worked for small companies and the "mega" carriers as you call them and i have been treated just as lousy by the small guys. With those they don't offer the same quality benefits at an affordable rate or other benefits you should have such as layover and detention pay, optional disablity insurance, 401k, etc. I work for the supposed small carrier that "knows you by name" and they might know me but forget getting top pay and benefits. if theres some exceptions to that rule then please tell me.
After being trucking for 17 years, im not thrilled working for .35 per mile and lucky to get 2000 miles per week. For that i might as well stock shelves at Wal-Mart. I know you might not be home as much with the big carriers but my family would rather see me a little less if the other option is making no money and we can all live together on the street. At least when I do get home we can all enjoy doing things together instead of worrying where the next meal is coming from.
I don't mean to sound sarcastic, but im tired of all the promises carriers (big and small) make you on pay and miles and blah blah blah, then after you there several months it all just goes POOF and gone. I was looking on here to see if anyone was happy with their OTR job that would work for me. I do have options few places used to work. At Shaffer a few years back i grossed about $65,000 and 2 years ago worked for Cargo Transporters and did about $57,000. I only left there cause not thrilled with the "electronic logs" they installed, but now the more i think about it maybe thats the way to go. can make a living and still get my rest every day.
Well, thanks for all who listened to me on my rant, and I would still appreciate any suggestions. -
Welcome to the "new age" of trucking.
I don't mean to come down on you, but what you have written, you might as well go and stock shelves at Wal-Mart. Leaving a company because of "electronic logs"?? I hope to see this a Federal manadate in the very short future.
