Just wondering how the Swift trucks are equipped?
    Inverters? Coolers? Radio? TV? GPS?
I have read the post from CactusJack about the list of stuff to bring during mentoring but wanted to know about inside the cab and sleeper.
That way, I will know what to be saving money for while I'm in training so I can buy what is not in the cab that I may want.
    Thanks!

Swift trucks dont have TV's or GPS, or inverters unless your trainer had it all put into his truck. Your truck will not have it though. It will be bareboned. They usually are setup for TV and refrigerator and such but you have to buy the actual stuff to put on. When I say they are setup I mean power points. Like a cigarette lighter. You will have to check with them to see if they allow power inverters that have to be wired in to the trucks power, and not plugged in to a cigarette lighter.

Thanks! I've searched the web and looked at 4-5 year old Volvos for sale and viewed the pics of the interior. I'm guessing they will look the same without the "frills".
I was just wondering if they would have equipment "left over" from the previous driver but if we are responsible for purchasing everything, then I would imagine the trucks are bare.

AM-FM radio. Period. The other stuff you buy. Don't buy anything until you know that trucking is a fit for you. And remember, if you load up your truck with accessories, and you quit or get let go miles from home, all that stuff won't fit in the overhead bin of a Greyhound Bus. You know I'm right.

You speak the truth! Thanks for the advice.
I plan to go light but here's my list:
    Lunchbox cooker
    12v powered cooler
    XM Radio
Laptop to play movies on and pay bills...and internet porn of course Who said that?
and the usual stuff...sleeping bag, pillow, atlas, truckstop guide, etc.

Any other sugegestions? I have seen in many posts that some drivers don't care about CB radios anymore. Opinions?
    Thanks!

LOL...yeah thats true. When I was with swift which was back in late 06. The volvos they had, had cd players. Some freightliners did as well, but of course mine did not. They used to put little bitty midland cb radios in those. Not sure if they still do. About the CB radios. I didnt have one for a while then broke down and bought one. It was nice to talk smack on sometimes driving down the road. Gave me something to do besides listen to my heavy thrash death metal music constantly. And in places where my truck was actually capable of breaking the speed limit was nice to know where the law man was waitin at. Other than that they are good for dumping money in that you really never gain anything from. Kind of like buyin a raunchy hooker for the night. But at least from her you might end up with something to dump more money on. Like penicillin shots? ;)

I drive for Swift. I have a 2007 Volvo and all that came in it was an am/fm cd. It has a tv antenna in one compartment along with a power outlet. The sleeper has another power outlet. I put in a satilite radio and have a coleman cooler that plugs into a power outlet.

If you are going with a mentor you should wait to see what he has in his truck and most important, what he will allow you to bring. Remember, it is his truck and his rules. You will be expected to travel light. When i was with my mentor I had one storage compartment and a littlew space under the lower bunk. The upper bunk was all mine, but it is smaller than the lower bunk and you really csan't sleep in it and have any space to store something.

    Thanks to all who responded!
I plan to bring only the bare necessities when I am with my mentor....clothes, meds, cell phone, sleeping bag and pillow and a notebook to take notes and write down questions, etc. Hopefully I will be able to speak to the mentor before heading out on the road, that way I can see if I can use space in their cooler. I don't want to intrude.
I can't believe the stories of what some trainees tried to bring. One post said his trainee had 6 bags!!!!:biggrin_25512:

Well your mentor shouldnt have a problem. I did go with one for a week when I started with Swift. I kind of b.s'd my way into my own truck. But the trainer I had, (I cant remember his name though for the life of me) had a cooler and he let me store my lunch meat and drinks in it and made sure it was iced down every day. I never had to worry about that. You should be alright. I am sure you will get to talk to your mentor before you head out. I did. When I was there they encouraged you to sit and chat before you went out. And your welcome. Glad I could help ya pal! ;)
