There all just another hill till that one day when it's you that is in the right spot at the wrong time. I got caught in a Snow Storm back in 2000 in Wolf Creek making delivery's on one of LTL Mom & Pop runs. It was very interesting. But I have to agree I have had worse times in other places. But Wolfe Creek deserves a moniker of respect from my point of view. Just depends on what happens while your there to adjust your point of view accordingly.

the first time i went down that hill was almost a year ago. there was fresh snow and ice on it. however, there were no chain restrictions! i guess it was due to the tourists/travelers going to and from wolf creek ski resort. the first leg of it wasn't bad at all. it was somewhat dry. although there was a driver who ended up in the runaway truck ramp. he was 1/4 of the way up it with ~2' of snow around his truck.

anyway, i was making my way down the shaded part of it, which was rest of the way down because it was around 0600. i put that mofo in the lowest gear possible and just rolled with it, and i was under a load of booze, too. yeah, if i had wrecked, people would have LOVED to have come by to help clean it up.

i made it down the hill with some of the driver's seat in places where it shouldn't have been. it was almost like sand, man! during the way down, i kept saying, "holy ---, holy ----, holy ----!"

Wolf Creek is much better than the 1st time I drove through there. We were going hunting and there was a truck at the bottom w/lettuce scattered all the way down. DPS said driver was killed. since then they have widened it a lot and put more rails up. That was about 1979 I guess. It had some real narrow spots back then. They all deserve respect in bad weather.

Last time I was on Wolf Creek, a SUV flipped upside down and I was the ems on scene until the ems in the area arrived. Took a little bit. It was in a snow storm. A doctor came on the scene and found I was a paramedic and deferred treatment to me and left.

Nothing like that Hippocratic oath. May have been more interested in getting to slopes. My Dad was MD and would have stayed until asked to leave. But that was old school.
