Absolutely. I do this to make money, not for fun. I’ve had good luck with Kenworth and Cummins X15 from 2018 until now. Prior I had used trucks and it was hit and miss. I just know I’ll never buy used trucks ever again. My highest mileage new truck I’ve bought is only 350k now so I’ll see how it goes from here until 500k when I plan to offload it. I do have warranty to 500k but haven’t had to use it so far. If they start ####ting the bed at 350k then I’ll sell them at that and buy new replacements again.

How do you get out of them that early bot owing? If you can cycle them thru and always have warranty, as long as you dont get a bad one, good luck. I just dont want to be a slave to a $3k a month payment. I have $0 monthly payment, and no new truck is going to make me 1 cent more revenue wise, it will just cost me more. At .08c a mile maintenance it's a money maker. I'm starting g to put some away for a future rebuild and a full paint. Still nowhere near half of what a new truck payment would be.
That said I would like to have another hood, but it would have to be a truck I knew, and I just dont see myself back into a payment just to have a flashy truck. But, never say never i guess? I loved my classic, kinda wish I still had it, tho it never got 8mpg... IMG_0451.jpg IMG_0451.jpg

So another update. Seems i may be getting a new truck sooner then planned. Guy was on his phone and pulled out infront of me on 117 heading north. Officer ruled me NOT at fault and my dashcam caught the whole thing. Officer said the fact i had slowed down to let a box truck pass and then saw them start moving and locked my wheels as fast as i did likely saved the passenger and drivers lives and is why there were only minor injurys. Seeing that mom get out with a newborn in her arms though is likely the most heart stopping moment of my life. Thank god no one god badly hurt though.

Impact broke my motor mounts and bent my frame pretty badly so it may be beyond saving. Wont know more till monday. But as of now its not looking great.

ill post the dash cam vid after the insurance rules just so i dont run afoul of anything. Also contacted my lawyer incase they try to sue anyway. 20210521_110153.jpg 20210521_110335.jpg 20210521_112459.jpg 20210521_112455.jpg

Well, it all comes down to per mile like you said.

I do enjoy 7.5 mpg fleet wide which is nice. And if you think about it if for the first 350k you have no down time and .037per mile cost then that’s pretty sweet. That includes services at 25k and new virgin tires.

IF you buy for 150k and at 350k can sell for 80k and get another fresh guy then why not?

That is 23.7 cents per mile total cost of ownership.

That’s cost to operate plus depreciation. When I bought trucks at 300 to 350k then I always need to factor 20 to 25 cents per mile just for repairs. That doesn’t factor depreciation or anything else. Certainly not downtime.

So, owning new trucks is actually cheaper and more consistent. Not to mention much less headache. You’ll gross more and spend less.

Check my math but seems right to me. I can’t afford to NOT be running new trucks. If you run them to 500k it actually costs you much more per mile since prices drop off a cliff, you have another round of tires, etc, plus any repairs that pop up not under warranty.

I’m not seeing where the frame is bent. Front cross member and maybe the front right frame horn, both of which are easily replaceable.

Sorry for late reply. That said i had a hard time getting it in the photo but it was bent in about 2 inches over a 3 foot section. If you put a ruler on it you could see it was bent inwards. Current news is it turns out it missed being totaled by a hair. $42,000 to total it and we are already at 36k in repairs. The list of broken stuff is 6 pages though.

The highlights are my ENTIRE charge air cooler assembly. The ENTIRE radator system including tank overflow and fan. Replaceing the cracked motor mount. Entire suspension system, popped all 6 shocks, all my Ubolts and shackles. My air conditioner (it popped the tank) and my entire chassis spring system as well as a good chunk of my engine harness. They also think i may have a broken DPF filter.

Once its running i think im only going to keep it long enough to get to a point where i can ditch it without a chapter 7. Likely get a 359 if i can find one with 500+ horse so its not a slug, i dont think a 400HP 3406B would cut it as a dump truck. Otherwise we will see, wouldn't mind a brand new 0 mile 567 with an ISX though.
