Special ordered a particulate matter sensor from dealer on April fifth to fix my check engine light. Called dealerships across the country and no one has it in stock.
Was told 2-3 weeks. Called at the end of april and was told 2 more weeks. Called mid may and told beginning of June. Called again yesterday and was told June 15-18.
This is ridiculous. Commercial vehicles on the road with no parts available. If anything major breaks down on my truck I am guessing 2+ months being out of service.
Replaced my brakes a few weeks ago and got lucky and found someone that had them in stock. Wasn't a dealer but was original mopar.
Still running my truck with the check engine light on and hoping I am not ruining anything else doing so.
This has been my only repair needed since I bought the truck. I am at 135k miles. Luckier than most Ram owners I guess.
Part ordered 2 months ago still not available

Haven't you heard there is a backlog on just about everything right now. And to add to that. A ship carring alot of auto parts just sanked. Hell it takes 5 months to get what use to take 2 weeks now.
God prefers Diesels Thanks this. -

Dealer said that 2 dealerships have the part. Colorado and Texas. He said he called and they wouldn't sell him the part and they are keeping it in stock for their own use. When I asked for the dealerships location or phone number he refused to give it to me.
Not fair that I can't even find an aftermarket replacement.
Parts where difficult to find since I bought the truck. Now with ships sinking, chip shortage and covid just made it much much worse. -
It is interesting how business philosophy has changed.
Clark had an order system for forklift dealers:
Stock order, freight paid, their carrier and timetable.
Hot/Rush, you paid your carriers freight and as fast as possible.
Then there was TOS (Truck out of service) with Trader Joe.
If in Clark DC, was gathered and shipped that day; if not, system was
checked for the dealer who last purchased. He was contacted
and if still had was instructed to get it out mos schosh to you.
There was a small % profit credit to his account with Clark and
added to your price. Reset his account to replace to him.
Also, Clark offered every part for 10 years. I have received steer
axle knuckles for older machines in gray cast finish with the
blue line outline marks it was machined by showing.
Shame they did not have the guts to continue making the best forklift
instead of cutting quality to meet the incoming imports. -
Most dealerships and big shops may have the stuff but they will not sell it cash and carry. They keep it for someone who is paying them to change it out.
Same with oil products right now. Some stuff is hard to come by to do changes in your own shop but take it in for them to do it and they have plenty of it. Never been denied before but
Freightliner would not sell me a bucket of mobil gear lube I needed to replace seals but said they could do it for me no problem. Lol! -
