I worked for a staffing agency one time and it was a good deal for me.
The trucking company paid the staffing agency and the staffing agency paid me.
It was hourly work and I made more per hour than the trucking company drivers.
I made like $2.00 more per hour and the staffing agency told me not to discuss pay with them.
It was W-2 also.Dino soar Thanks this. -
Nothing. I worked for one for a year. Obviously, taxes and medical benefits, but nothing more.
The company they send you to pays for that fee. -
Be careful now because the trend is for them to pay you on a 1099 rather than W-2.
In the late nineties I actually worked for Staffmark and they were pretty good they paid you on a W2 at that time.
But right now the trend in driver leasing is to pay you on a 1099 and it cost you a lot more money in taxes if you do that. And no workman's comp or any of that.
It should be illegal that they do that. -
I was W-2 for Driving Ambition about 6 years ago.
-
That's good to hear.
Near me there was commercial drivers Leasing, TransForce, and Fundamental Labor Strategies I think was the name of that crazy place in New Jersey.
They all paid on a 1099 and there were others around this area doing the same.CrappieJunkie Thanks this. -
Transforce bought out Driving Ambition a year or so ago. We get some of our temps from there. The last one that came through was W-2, I believe.
But I agree, 1099, unless freelancing or doing a per project basis, should be illegal.tscottme Thanks this. -
At the 2 companies my employer used the rented drivers were paid by the temp service $1-2 less per hour than employee drivers. I presume my employer paid the temp service what the employer paid employee drivers. It varies by situation,
-
Generally the temp drivers make more unless it's a shop somewhere that the drivers really get paid a lot of money.
I'm not sure what they pay nowadays but I'm sure it's over $20 an hour and a lot of them are overtime after 8 hours. But they are charging the customer like 35 or 45 an hour.
Yes they are paying that much money when they need a driver.Chinatown Thanks this.
