City driver? As in day cab home every night kind of driver? That’s what the 16 hour exemption is for.

 

I went six minutes over my break a couple days ago to make it to the receiver where I was going to park and reset anyway. I wasn't going to take a 30 just to drive the extra six minutes. Illegal? Yes. But taking a 30 to drive six minutes to reset would have been kinda F'n stupid, so I drove it. I got stuck in Chatanooga traffic for like 45 minutes, and it screwed up my initial plan where I was going to easily make it to the receiver. My first violation so far.

 

I will edit my pre trip time to help get a few extra minutes to finish the day.

Incorrect. Straight from the FMCSA:
In order to use this exception, you must do the following:
• You must return to your work reporting location that day, as well as for your last 5 duty tours. A duty tour is the period of time from when you come to work to when you leave work. It is your “workday,” the time between your off-duty periods of at least 10 consecutive hours.
• You must be released from duty within 16 hours after coming on duty.
• You must only use this exception once every 7 consecutive days (unless you took 34 consecutive hours off to restart a 7/8-day period).

I’m sorry I’m NOT taking a 10hr break when I’m only an hour or so from home.

The company understands but I know dot might not.
In three months I’ve been over hours only twice and one 30min break violation.

 

Not very long. I got my numbers last August. I try to keep my operation as clean as I can, because I don't want to give money to the cartel. Just finally had my New Entrant safety audit a couple days ago. Guy was amazed. I was super hyped afterward.

 

Also, I push...hard. I've actually made it to my destination with one minute of drive time remaining four times so far, and less than ten minutes countless times. Any amount of extra traffic could push me over the limit, and maybe I've just been lucky so far. You aren't a dirtbag. It's hard to get everything accomplished that you want to get accomplished in a measly eleven hours. Hell, after eleven hours of driving, I'm just getting warmed up and now it's already time to stop again. It sucks.
