I got arrested for misdemeanor possesion of marijuana on 01/01/2000. That is my only criminal charge. Also, in 1999 my license was suspended for 30 days, for points. In 2005, I was in a small wreck and was issued a ticket for careless driving. I paid the ticket on the due date, but did not clear the payment receipt with DMV. I ended up having my license unknowingly suspended from April 2005 til August 2005. I found out it was suspended when I got copy my MVR for a job. I had the receipt from the paid ticket, cleared it with my DMV and my license was back to being good. Will these issues hold me back from being able to pursue this career? I would like to try and apply with one of the training companies as I do not have my CDL, and would need to be full trained. Any info would be a great help. Thanks
Will a misdemeanor hold me back...

Forget it . Too many applicants out there with no convictions and clean MVR . If you really want the pride of having a CDL though any CDL mill will accept you .
-
Forget it?? Really?? I understand that any "mill" will take me. I have thought about going to a school in my area. We have a Roadmaster here in Jax,FL. I just am afraid that after I go through the school, it will be hard to get hired. Not really a pride issue though. Thank You
-
I am sure just about any of the schools would take you (at least the mill ones) but just be careful about any of them saying your record is AOK for hire somewhere. These schools tend to do that. You get your CDL..a big bill for training and then NO JOB. Maybe you could try and apply for a company that has training and see what they say? - Might be a good indicator of how acceptable you would be.
Oh..if the application says "EVER" instead of "IN THE LAST X YEARS" and you don't disclose something....once the insurance companies do their due dilligence - you likely will find yourself out of a job....
Always fill any application out 100%
Always use N/A in areas that you do not need to fill out
Always check for proper spelling
Always state the truth - they will find out

PS. Florida has to be the WORST state to get into trucking.... -
Dont compamy's just go back 3 years ? I know it's a 10 year work history, but they really only call the jobs you have had in the last three years, to see why you left ?? Like on most of the application, it says " have you had any positive drug test in the last three years" ...
-
Well I don't get it either. But I know my friend didnt disclose a DWI from 13yrs ago (application said EVER and she didnt see it that way) and she started and then 60days later was brought into the terminal and FIRED for falsification of her application.
If the app says "in the last X years" then your OK. But many apps now say.."Have you EVER been convicted..." and thats how they are catching people. Hide it? - get caught and terminated.
I am wondering how some insurance company found out. Since after several years it does drop off your MVR...obviously there is a record of it out there somewhere...maybe off the MVR but not off the Court system?

Nothing like punishing people forever for something they did and paid for many years ago... -

I went and spoke to a rep from Roadmaster in Jacksonville an hour ago. I explained my entire situation. He thought it would best to see if I can get pre-hired first. He gave me apps to fill out for Werner, Stevens, Covenant, and CRST. I am going to fill them out and return them tomorrow. He said he would know something by Friday, if brought the apps tomorrow. Keep your fingers crossed with me.
-
Yup...that was my thoughts...CRST...ehhhhh
But you got to start somewhere I guess..
Keep us posted here...I'll be curious too...Roadmaster isnt a bad school.

I am also thinking about getting the charge on my record exspunged. Any thoughts on that?
