Thanks for the advices guys. The culture in Challenger is really good, seems like most of the drivers are happy. Also, they offer drivers to buy their used trucks to be O/O within the first year. But the pay is not that great, still at 44 cents. And lots of 20 year plus drivers only get 20.50 per hour or 48 cents/mile

There's a loop hole to that contract. You only have to pay if you quit. If you get fired you don't have to. There's a member on this site who did his training there, worked for a month and stopped showing up. They eventually fired him. It's been like a year they haven't asked him. They also never asked me. It's been nearly two years ( I quit )

If you ever get tired of the Highway, think about Unionized Companies such as Ups, Canpar, Purolator, DHL etc.. Yes, Unionized companies have the most politics oppose to Large Carriers like Challenger, Bison etc. But you have to look at the lifestyle and Pay whiles looking at a job. Yes, Uniforms sucks but for a couple hundred plus more per week and home daily to much people overlook it. You mentioned, $20.50/hr for Drivers and $0.44 cpm for drivers at Challenger (that's hard long days driving 2400 miles/week and/or 480 miles per day avg. driving time 8 hrs daily to crack $1000 whiles Teamsters made sure that the Drivers at Ups & Purolator are north of $30/hr with various premiums taking their time. I even seen a Challenger Trailer on the 401 west bound near Ayr, ON. with one of their painted trailers representing that they are Carriers for them which is similar to Canada Cartage under contract with Ups. Point being why work for the secondary when you can work for the primary?

can't agree more. but after looking for a job for the first year, I really don't see too much of differences between those major companies. I knew someone in Winnipeg bought his own truck and trailer after two months of training. he's making 15k-18k net a month now (work 20-22 days). but its not the same case in Ontario, I can't get insured here until I have at least 1 year insured experience. I also talked with a guy who's O/O with Challenger, he drove as a company driver for about half year with Challenger, then bought a used truck from Challenger, seems very happy. I think I would do the same thing if a used truck would be available from Challenger. Lets see how things go, I definitely not going to work for 44 cents or $20/hour for so long

So Challenger was good enough to train him and them he deliberately gets himself fired so he doesn't have to pay.Sound like a bit of a low life IMO.If a company is good enough to train someone the least that person could do is honor the contract considering Challenger probably saved the guy 10 grand by not have to go to a driving school on his own dime.

480 miles a day? On us hours I expect 550-600 miles a day. So what happened to the other 2-3 hours? Cdn hours? At least 650 a day.

When I worked at challenger I would be lucky to hit 600 miles a day running east coast. Most loads were under 400 miles. I ran a lot of Cambridge > PA, and not much else. Challenger needs better variety for drivers on their dry van loads. I had to work hard to hit $1100 a week as a company driver. Not sure if much has changed in the last two years since I last worked there.

You are an owner operator for challenger. All the owner ops I talked to at challenger were all happy.
