New drive tires

From what owner operators I know who have run all steers, they gain .5-.75 MPG. What size tires are you running?

 

They are a hard compound and suck in rain and deep snow. Lightly loaded they just want to spin under light acceleration. They just suck in those conditions

 

That’s amazing. Old days, 100k was considered good. My Classics usually get 130-140k from Firestone’s. I’ve always been happy with that!! 200k definitely makes them worth it. Boils down to overall cost efficiency. Including fuel cost. I’m guilty of pinching pennies to save now, and costing more in the long run. It’s easier sometimes. Not having Equipment payments, paying cash as I go. Trying to avoid big ticket purchases.

 

24.5 lo pro. I’ve always been willing to sacrifice 1/3- 1/2 mpg to run Luggers. But I used to run Light from Michigan to Wisconsin 3-4 rds per week. Tires make all the difference. I’ve got 6 steers and 2 good deep drives together now on the front axle. Almost got stuck a couple times last winter, in the yard. Mud and snow.

 

MD alignment change shocks every 100k suspension and cab. Drives rotated front to back then cross cross then front to back and then cross again. Centramatics
All around. Even trl . Trailer gets Sam treatment as drives. Run Michelin steers on trailer.
Trailer gets alignment every time new tires go on. Get about 150k out of trailer tires

 

Again, I’m not sold on all the rotating. Adds extra cost. The money saved could go towards the next set. I’ve often crossed the rear forward, the front straight back only once, and had even wear in the end.

 

I get the same out of my cheap tires but I also do a little off-road.....
But once my drives hit 300.000 miles there coming off ,steers 150.000 miles

 

Hmm, will steers really last long on the trailer? Good trailer tires last over 300k on my dryvan

 

No magic pill for everyone for sure
