    Hello Truckers,

    Hope you’re doing well.

I had my first lesson today and just need some advice.

So it was an old beat up truck. The right side mirror was broken and I couldn’t see the right side of the trailer properly for two hours I was driving it. Instructor said that’s fine I’ll keep an eye. Clutch, brake and gas pedals were so hard to press, my feet are sore right now. Clutch was out of adjustment that some gears would shift smoothly others i literally have to grind through them and Instructor was fine with it. Smoke started coming out from the engine bay and instructor is again like don’t worry about it.

it was a hot day and Instructor had the ac on blast with windows open(telling me he prefers windows open). While i was driving he was literally yelling at me and the noise of traffic, i panicked few times.

he had me in the driver’s after like 10 minutes into the lesson without explaining anything about the turns or other important stuff which I just learned after watching a youtube video just now.

I kinda got the idea how to shift gears but with the condition of the truck, i feel like i won’t be able to pass the road test.

I’m in Western Canada, and driving school is very reputable in the region.

i was super mad after this 2 hour #### show, do yall think should i talk 33C898F1-714D-4BE5-9AE5-6DC8182D6975.jpeg to the school to be trained on the newer trucks(i saw they have new ones in the lot too)?

Sounds like you shouldn't pay money for a class like that unless it they put you in something newer and better condition. Don't even know how they figure they should have a truck with no mirror on it. Good luck.

That’s the best way to learn, Lol. They’ll probably move you up to a newer Truck. Chaotic? I’m not surprised. Stick it out, follow the program. It’ll get easier every time.

Clutch adjustment or the lack of clutch at all has no say at all whether you are grinding gears. Just FYI. Even if you get in new truck, you will be trashing the gears until you learn the proper timing and shift rhythm

First, I would not move an inch until my mirrors are right. That is like driving blind.

The rest of it you are learning don't give a rats ### about the looks of the truck or if It smokes. Just drive the #### out of it. If the transmission falls out of it who cares.

The shifting will come. That is what they know will be most people's issues. You'll get it. They more than likely won't throw you our for a road test in something that won't pass the pretrip.

Look at it this way, pal, it can only get better. Schools rarely have nice trucks, cripes, you should see what Sun Prairie School( Wis) had for years, those "Japanese Freightliner" cabovers, so you're way ahead of the game there. Patience, get this behind you, you'll never have to think about it again, and soon enough, you can sit there, and watch your wallet and axx get fat.

You've just described the general first day in a truck for most people.. its intense, it confusing, its scary... but its normal. Even if you were in a brand new truck with what you think are perfect conditions... the descriptions would be practically the same. This isn't hard.. its NEW.. Hang in there, it will get better.

Are you paying for this school? If so, your the customer which make you the boss. You decide the service you get. Yelling, sorry this is a no go in my world. Broken mirror, how you going to learn to back properly?
I'd start with a talk with the director or owner if not it won't get better.

Well the broken mirror should definitely be fixed. Thats a pretty important part. Other than that it sounds like your typical school truck lol.

In my experience though, the old rattle traps are usually easier to shift than the new ones.
