well to answer ur question, if noones hiring..actuallty its more like companies are layin off rather than not hiring..anyways, if almost everyone but werner has a hiring freeze and are laying off, have layed off or are planning to, what does that tell you? u wont last long there becuz what they do is layoff ppl just so they can hire new recruits. They get a major tax break for training. If u go to work for them; make sure u bring ur barfbag cuz the way that company treats its drivers will make u sick. And its a "taught" attitude throughout the dptch office up there that drivers are just"warm bodies".Was actually on the phone once wit my dptchr when i worked for werner, was bout 6 mnths after bein there..she has me call her up for a ld briefing oneday..anyways we get to talkin and i ask her whats with this i hear about 600 drivers bein layed off recently, she says"just warm bodies thats been here for 2er3 yrs, just drivers thats been here too long"-nb.[was thinkin, did she really just say that,is she crazy] Before we get off the phone she brings up me bein a trainer which is the rsn her greedy lil a $s had me call her in first place(only about 4th time in a month shes asked me)I tell her no thx its not for me and she goes from sweet to nasty in about.001 seconds and tells me "ok,if u dont wanna train ur gonna be in the boiling pot then"-nb ..so there ya go..u wanna work for a company that has a " B O I L I N G P O T" GO AHEAD..lol i tell ya 1 thing tho since ur new to the biz, dptchrs are among one of the lowest lowlife lyin bunch of ppl in the world, never trust them!!!!!!!!!lol and its not so much the dptchrs fault, theyre just doin what theyre told and/or whats expected of them..alllthho,some of them are out of control with greed/power and take things waay farther then they have to. I imagine they are encouraged to do the things they do and are rewarded with bonuses..actually i do know for a fact that they get PAID for "trainer miles" . i guess everyone already knows that but theres my 2 cents =] have a merry christmas :D

TO WENP1111 I was recently fired by Schnieder, I had my CDL for 11 years. Prior to this I had my back fused and drove for Dedicated Systems in Green Bay. I have a paper work review thanks for being here we appreciate your very cooperative attitude and checked off commendable and circled distinguished. But did not want to rehire me. I would go East, West and South. I got hired by Schneider. At first it was 6-700 mile runs. Then every time as it would get close to getting home Id do a couple of short runs. Then right when I'd leave to go back out 14 days a couple more short runs before 300 mile trip. After it was drop and hook for 2 days prior to going home. 1 dispatcher called me on my cell phone Ken at 5:45a.m. and called me an A;; hole because of asking a question about driving time. Then finally after all drop and hooks I just made my last drop getting paid 02 actuall loaded miles. Then drove 25 miles back to Green Bay and dropping the truck at the terminal. They put on mu Dac I did not show up for work. I have a paycheck of $255.43 Thats a few like that. So alot is the board you are assigned to. The company and drivers I have met are good people. But I keep getting told if you get incompetent dispatchers or whatever you want to call them you are just out of luck. And yes they are doing what they are told but also Schnieder's recruiters said to me out of 33 or 35 in a class 2 are left. 1 would think after a while they would relize this. Lastly I will never forget when I was in orientation. We had to fill out cards of what we thought of the company. All the guys billions and billions of dollars and needs his ego stroked, I put I was very fortunate and happy to be hired by the largest trucking company and that they are very driver oriented. I did not know what to put. But I thought it was interesting to fill out something like that when a driver has not even been out a single day. Now I know why they fill them out in orientation!! At least wait a day or 2!

Ya ur right, some of the dptchrs are incompetent and is unfair to the drivers as I believe a bad dptchr is sometimes better/more valuable then a good driver to these companies. And some of them are really good dptchrs but take their job very seriously and are worried about their money and job security a little more then their drivers. As the "good ones" care about their drvrs and make them money, they gotta do what they gotta do sometimes. For the most part, dptchrs are told what to do by their boss as is he. Needless to say, they do not want to lose their job and will try to be more productive/have less late loads then the next guy, as it can be so" cut throat",even in the office. And if you are not going to do your part, will have little to no patience with you. They have families to feed too. These big companies are not so much run by a certain person but a board of directors/advisors making decisions to ensure that the company stays afloat and does not go under as the majority of them are publically traded companies struggling in todays low cost of freight and high fuel priced transportation industry.
I actually know who he was speaking of(wenp1111) and she is among one of the best dptchrs up there but takes her job as I said above, very seriously ,not to mention one of the most intelligent and personable ppl I have ever had the chance to know. Just keep your nose clean and you'll be alright with this company. And if you feel you get a bad dptchr let ur flt sup know , if the problem truly is a bad dptchr and not you,ur flt sup will most likely already be aware, just dont not speak up and never leave anything untold.<-( a late ld is the worse secret u can keep as even if its not ur fault, if u dont notify dptch,it most certainly will be.)and a good driver cannot be succesful with a bad dptchr just as a good dptchr cannot be succesful with bad drivers ;]
They have a good system of doing things that far surpasses some other companies of its size...not gonna mention any names. They all have their downfalls as you are working for not so much a company but corporation and is ran like one too. If your having to go with a "training company"/or a "starter company" I would go with werner without a doubt. I drove for them for 2 yrs and was vvery very happy when I was there and made bookoo$ as i was runnin between 3500-4k mi/wk solo. Hurt my back around 6 mnths ago in june, which I regret not reporting,(didnt wanna be the "whiner",and loved my job, didnt wanna have that on my record that I was hurt on the job, which I see now why workman comp exists) as now im up sht crk with no med insur, mind altering pain from my but to my toes, unable to wrk/sleep and with no income, fixin to be out of house and home. Basically worked til I couldnt anymore, took a loa in oct due to the pain of the injury that had progressively gotten worse and was seperated from werner in nov upon my return. Got my self in a bind to say the least. Anyone that has any advice, I would sure appreciate it as to be honest, am about ready to give up on life itself as I donot know what to do or what I can do and am beginning to think that there isn't. I know I cant live in relentless pain like this for the rest of my life, is drivin me to insanity. Lord help me
Ok, in closing, to what I was tlkin about to begin with, there are better companies then werner and there are FAR worse, but with no experience, honestly they are 1 of ur better ones
    happy trucking,
    merry christmas(when u get to it) :D

To ALN5122 I cannot encourage you enough or anyone that reads this Anytime anywhere no matter how slight if you hurt yourself ALWAYS, ALWAYS report it immeadiately. That happened on my 1st driving job. Janitorial boxes fell on me and kept working. It turned into a pinched nerve. Never having a back problem before you do not relate pain going down your leg to a disk in the back. Also at that point i could not sit very long anymore so I was not doing a good job. Then after workers comp. Oh that never happened here. Its like I never had a back problem before and I just did not want to say anything. Always, REPORT IT!! Some people are just fine after surgery other people you are opening Pandoras box! After my 1st lamonectomy I signed off for workers comp.( The judge encouraged me) I did not have attorney, What for? I went there to tell the truth about what happened. JUDGES DO NOT LOOK OUT FOR THE WELL BEING OF PEOPLE, He ALSO HAD NO RIGHT TO SAY THAT. JUdge Roy Sass Appleton wi. I had 2 lamonectomys and about 3 years ago I had it fused and that when I was at Dedicated Systems in Green Bay. I have an Excellent work review on paper he gave me but did not want to rehire me. Although he has his worthless check writing bail jumping alcoholic son Chritopher working there. I was also there when Bernies other son Jamie had a sexual harassment case pending on another person there, plus I was there when Bernie said he will never hire another black guy again. This comes after some guy stole a new truck and left it outside of Chicago at a truck stop stealing the entire K.I. load and all the tires on the truck. ( New super singles) (he must have had a little help) So needless to say Bernie Courchaine is DISCRIMINATING!! A little more than what you want to know? Im at the point where drivers need to stand up for whats right because after a while people get sick and tired of being lied to and lied about. PERIOD!!!!

Yep, that is prety much exactly what happend to me. Got to the point where I couldnt sit for more then 120 miles, couldnt think straight from the pain and fatigue nor keep myself halfway sane, not to mention get a good nights sleep. Ended up sayin some things I normally wouldn't have, was transfered to diff board, month later took a loa and a month after that was let go. What it feels like to me is I have a "severe spraigned ankle" pain in my low back and upper portion of thigh with a mix of burning, numbness, and just raw pain goin down my right leg to my foot with tingling in my toes.
What the constant everyday pain does to your mind and your life is almost worst then the pain itsself. And with no med insurance,no income, unable to work there is an extreme depression and confusion that comes along with it. Am losing everything and soon will be able to say that I have. Think i'm fixin to get swallowed by society and theres nothin I can do about it.

Hey ALN, Im 43 and live at home with my mom. I don't have anything and I know that. I also had a bowel obstruction, That alone was $100,000.00 uninsured. (so be careful what you eat!) corn, seeds, strawberrys, as goofy as that sounds it contibutes. But in your case right now first things first. A doctor cannot refuse treatment. Call him or just go to the hospital. Rest assured the world will stop... For quite a while . I know in my case the had to do physical therapy (15) sessions and 3 epidural steroid injections 3 is the most because that will strt to shrink your bones that alone was over $12,000.00 And that in itself was 6 months of time wasted. But I had to do it because If I did not "United Health Care Insurance" would come back and say "you did not try EVERYTHING so we don't want to pay. I had insurance with this last lumbar spinal fusion/w instramentation and that cost not quite $ 67,000.00 and am still in the hole for life when you get goofy employers that then don't keep you working either. Or they want the driver to work for free. (doing nonsense work) Anyways GO TO YOUR DOCTOR OR HOSPITAL. Its going to take a long time and GOOD LUCK!!

went to a doctor last week, paid 250 dollars for an xray and referal to a physical therapist along with some musc relaxers. Bad thing about this whole thing is, I am only 23 yrs old and my life is prety much over as i know it and I havent even started it yet. I think I would have a better chance of makin a way and havin a good life starting out flat broke and homeless if only I had my health back. You cant live or have a life like this much less survive. If you aint got ur health u have nothin.

Say ALN5122 Just so u know, Im 5"8' and weigh 165 so things can and do happen. Im not someoone who wieghs 4 tons. And I even asked some guys that are really big how come you dont have any health issues/ back problems?. Some just don't know why others said to me their bones hurt all the time. I would not want to get any of them angry at me, It may take a while for these guys to swing their arm around, just make sure your not in the way when it comes by! Good Luck!
