Hi again all, and thanks for the replies! We just came in from 10 days so thought I would post a follow up, and yes, I still have a job with my wife teaming. In fact, our DM is more upset that I blew my first safety bonus by being a bonehead!
The insurance estimate(s) came in at $2432. I jokingly break it down like this:
$432 to repair damage caused by dumb noob (me).
$1000 for deductible
$1000 back to the repair guy to write $2432 estimate, his brother, who will then kickback $500 of it.
OK, OK, seriously...
So I got a "Major Preventable", and written up subject to further discipline / discharge and all that. Expected.
What does this do to my future as a driver? Seems most other companies use a $10,000 threshold from what I have seen for new-hires and recruiters I have talked too. When freight picks back up, will I be unable to move to a different OTR company? Local company? Don't misunderstand, we are happy where we are, but nevertheless the day may come...
Thanks all...I appreciate your time and help.

I turn off the cb and take my time, the louder they holler amazingly the longer it takes to get in that hole.

In my two years with PAM (my first driving job), I had 3 preventable accidents. All of them were backing incidents either at a customer or a truck stop.
Since those first two years, I've worked for OTR and local companies and have never been told I couldn't be hired. Some of the OTR companiesI worked for were CFI (before they were bought by ConWay), KLLM, Seward Motor Freight, and a car hauling company known as BMT. None of them ever said anything to me about my preventables with PAM. The local company I worked for never once brought it up either, but they didn't check DAC.

The only reason why I missed the fence with the nose of the tractor, was because someone else, took care of it for me..LOL -
I've had drivers backing in beside me fold my mirror in a couple of times. Luckily, that mirror was designed to move that way, so all I needed to do was push it back out.
Had a truck pulling out from beside me, and the tail of his trailer caught my fender mirror. Lucky again, just had to adjust the mirror back where I wanted it.
But, I had a driver late at night, think he could nose in beside me. Until, the middle of his trailer took out my fender. Man, I had just laid down and closed my eyes, when I was bounced out of my bunk. Funny thing was, it was his first day with that company. -
Well, I see I am not alone in this!! Makes me feel a little better, I know we are human, but nevertheless I will not get lazy again!
The last time out I was as careful as on day one. That's really what this is about. Don't get stoooooopid!
A friend told me back then (she is an O/O): "You will let your guard down, not pretrip right, or do something you know better not to and then realize that you have gotten a little complacent. That's when the wake up call comes."
How right she was.
Be safe everybody!davetiow Thanks this. -
I know what that is like. I did many of those backing nightmares. After which my arms and clutch leg would be worn out, that is true. Ignore all the distactions. maintain attention, and focus on the problem at hand. Be incharge of it.

I just know your CB has an on off knob! And as Logear said, the louder they holler the longer it takes to hit the hole but with my 25 watts I ask them how long they REALLY want to sit there as I CAN do another pull up just to pee you off! That usually shuts the rookies up! As in going down 6% grades whats behind you doesn't matter! A minute out of someones life wont hurt! They should have left earlier!
davetiow Thanks this.
