Hey all, I'm new to the industry but not new to solving problems and helping put process in place.

I've decided on TMT as our fleet maintenance platform as it interfaces with our TruckMate stuff.

    I'm curious:
    • What are other shops using?
    • If you're using TMT, what kind of tablets have you found work best?
    • How often are you replacing broken hardware?
    • Do you have any workstations with scanners or are you simply using mobile tablets?
    • What kind of complaints do you have about modernizing (currently we're using paper for work orders)
Obviously our current system has left many accuracy holes, time bleeding, inventory errors, project scope etc so I want to set these guys up as best as I can to bring us to 2021.

    Thanks for any feedback!

I run 1 toughbook laptop with software from each manufacturer. Dont believe in fancy micromanaging 3rd party systems. All on paper and can scan and email bills etc. I keep it simple, no need to overcomplicate.

You can also hire an IT computer geek to write programs if you want how you want them. A few basic excel spreadsheets and away you go

Thanks, actually currently we're using paper however we're now trying to manage over 400 units this way and I know for a fact things are slipping through the cracks. Something that the owners would like more insight in to is time tracking as well that seems to just be a free for all.

This system will fix this stuff but I'm sure introduce a whole new complexity. Luckily I have a good team here.

Going computerized won't fix wasted time. I've worked in shops that were pen & paper and others that were 100% digital. Time waste comes from inefficient shop practices.

The one thing I loved about being 100% digital is that anyone on the shop floor could pull up the work order history for anything. Helped with the troubleshooting process sometimes.

Absolutely, there are years (decade?) of habits that will be tough to change but I was hired to bring process to the chaos. I know computerizing won't fix the wasted time but it will allow us to get some insight in to where that time is wasted so we can go about fixing that.
Having work orders handy at the tap of a button will be a game changer with the amount of volume currently moving through the shop.

Have you looked into niche software like shopmonkey or repairshopr? There are also some good ticketing systems from the over complex and super expensive peoplesoft to the relatively simple crm designed for tickets like sugarcrm.
