The FMCSA performs about five variations of compliance reviews (CR):
1. Rated compliance review: Looks at HM, D & A testing, CDL, lease agreements, entry level driver, insurance, general rules, DQ, vehicle operation i.e. speeding per Part 392, HOS, maintenance and driving and parking per Part 397. The six factor are explained in Part 385 Appendix B:

2. Non-Rated compliance review: May be a 45 or 60 day follow-up review to a proposed unsatisfactory review to ensure the carrier is now complying with the FMCSR and HMR. A non-rated review is usually targeted to a particular area.
3. Security Contact Review (SCR): A SCR is non-rated and focuses on issues related to HM security.
4. HM Shipper Review (SR): A SR is a non-rated review performed on a HM shipper to ensure they are complying with the HMR.
5. Cargo Tank Repair Facility Review (CTFR): A CTFR is a non-rated review performed at cargo tank repair facilities to ensure they are qualified to repair carog tanks and have the necessary tools and licenses to get the job done correctly.
