Pre emission vs emission delete

It depends where you live about getting it deleted. I live in Arkansas and almost every local truck is deleted as soon as it gives trouble. Some states would be different.

Personally I hope I never own another pre emission truck. They are just so old anymore it’s a constant to do list on them. If you can’t do quite a bit of work yourself I wouldn’t get one. Maybe check out gliders on TruckPaper??

 

Have you looked at what they want for gliders these days? You can buy a pre emmissions truck and pay somebody else to fix all the little issues that show up for what they want for one of those.

 

Something to think about when you have a monthly payment. It’s not like a rental, that money goes to you owning an asset.
Not only that but you have depreciation which is a good thing. Talk to your tax lady about it

 

The 2003 is still a electronic controlled emissions engine, pre-DEF but not a mechanical injection.

Bigger problem can be insurance. Multiple companies, over the years, refuse to insure a truck that was 20 years old or older.

OP may just get the 2003 all fixed up and then find his lease options are limited after spending what is needed to keep the old nag reliable.

Going on his own may be problematic. Will it be reliable 'enough' for a one man band to gain and KEEP customers...

 

It's all in how you drive it. In my 99 379, 6nz, 3.55s with 48ft flat I average 6.5mpg. Alot of that is because I live In Idaho. When I'm in the midwest, I average around 7mpg. I've gotten as much as 7.4mpg from idaho all the way to Ohio once...lol

 

I haven't done enough light work with mine to see what it'll actually do if you treat it nice. 90k pounds running 70 mph or better isn't exactly fuel mileage friendly.

 

I'm usually around 78kish and I don't run 70mph...because mpg is fairly important to me. So I usually do around 67mph, but most times 65mph. Going fast isn't that important to me.

 

Right with you but for some reason I haven't partied ways with my 99 KW. I park the new one right in of her. My wife wants me to get rid of her sooner than later(was going to make a joke ). I was in it the other day but definitely don't look to wanting to go back to old.
As someone who does know how to work on trucks. It is just learning something new no big deal(my brain still works). The new one isn't even broke in yet. As you stated stay up on the maintenance like take care of any type of machinery or yourself for that matter. All the best to you trucker. In with the new out with the old
